The team behind Mo’s Desert Clubhouse launch The Ranchero, a Mexico-inspired bar and event space

When it comes to top-notch live-music venues, Mo’s Desert Clubhouse takes the cake. The Clubhouse has spent many years as a hub for local creatives, and now it’s time to add to the Mo’s family. Enter The Ranchero, a new event space and licensed bar that’s opening this April. The bar and outdoor garden is inspired by a mix of Mexico City culture, traditional hacienda vibes and of course, keeping in true Mo’s style, the venue’s favourite musical inspirations. Here’s a peek inside …

Mo’s Desert Clubhouse has a sweet story behind its conception. Back in 2016, three Gold Coast creatives met in the Mojave Desert during the famous art and culture festival Burning Man. Upon return to Australia, the trio decided to open creative industry venue, Mo’s Desert Clubhouse in Burleigh Heads. Since then, the Americana psychedelic desert-inspired venue has earned its right as Gold Coast’s Music Venue of The Year two years running and has cemented its status as a circuit staple for nationally and internationally touring acts. Now comes the second part of the story – The Ranchero, a new event space and licensed bar housed within Mo’s Desert Clubhouse. Same same but different to Mo’s, this bar and outdoor garden takes its inspiration from a mix of muses – Mexico City culture, traditional hacienda vibes and feminine inspirations like Dolly Parton, as well as Mexican Patron Saint, The Virgin Guadalupe.

The Ranchero will be open Thursday through to Sunday for lunch, dinner and drinks in-between. Inside the lively venue, guests can enjoy a selection of tantalising tipples like margaritas, sangrias and a signature tequila espresso martini. The wine list has been carefully curated to boast a number of natural, vegan and preservative-free options, while local independent beers will also be pouring. The whistle-wetting drinks offering is complemented by Southwest American-style street-food eats served up by the onsite food truck Fix On 66. Friday sessions are where it’s at, with live music and entertainment on the deck as the sun sets. If you’re visiting Mo’s for a gig, you’ll be able to enjoy a cheeky drink at The Ranchero, with the two spaces opening up to one another on gig nights. Oh, and did we mention you can hire The Ranchero out for your own private function? Those looking to host a fiesta inside The Ranchero should email the Mo’s team at [email protected], but be quick, as this eccentric event space and bar will be booked out before you know it.

The Ranchero will open its doors at midday on Thursday April 6, just in time for the Easter long weekend.
