If you still secretly equate vegan food to be flavourless tofu salads and dubious fake meat, a trip to the brand new The Cardamom Pod Southport is well and truly in order. Instead, you’ll find acai bowls loaded with amazing fresh, seasonal fruit and chunks of coconut, crispy waffles topped with decadent peanut butter ice-cream and caramelised banana and delicious savoury chickpea crepes. The Cardamom Pod is committed to creating some exceptional plant-based eats that even the most dedicated carnivores can enjoy, think calzones brimming with Indian-spiced tofu and Numtella Pumpkin Protein Pancakes with espresso creme, healthy homemade Nutella, berries and hazelnuts (let’s be honest, they had us at healthy Nutella). Come lunchtime, the midday menu offers some equally appetising meat-free eats including crispy rice paper rolls, potato, tapioca and peanut koftas and even burgers loaded with cassava chips and Mongolian barbecue tacos.

The venue has really stepped things up in terms of food styling with micro-herbs and edible flowers adorning the dishes while the bright, airy new digs provides a stark contrast to its moodier Broadbeach sister space. Tucked away beside the Ferry Road Market building, The Cardamom Pod isn’t immediately visible however those who endeavour to seek will be rewarded with flavoursome, plant-based fare and deliciously sweet treats.
