Pavement Whispers: former owners of Paddock announce a new Burleigh Heads bakery and cafe
If 2020 still has you questioning everything you know, then here’s some mouth-watering local news that’ll perk you right up – the former owner-operators of Paddock Bakery are set to open a brand-new bakery and cafe in the heart of Burleigh Heads. With the anticipated new arrival just weeks away, owner Chloe Watts has shed some light on what’s to come …
Works are now in full swing on Tarte Bakery & Cafe, which has taken over the expansive corner site formerly occupied (for more than 20 years) by longstanding Italian restaurant Vecchia Roma. Currently a major construction site, the premises – nestled near the top of James Street, cornering the Gold Coast Highway – will be completely transformed into a 100-plus-seat cafe and fully operational bakery, with an opening pegged for early August.
The leafy corner site will boast a dreamy West Village New York-style frontage and Parisian-influenced internal fit-out, with the majority of the seating sprawling outside. Patrons and passersby will be able to see the bakers and pastry chefs in action through a glass viewing window as they craft Tarte’s daily offering of sweet and savoury baked goods, which we’re told will have a slight rustic-European lean. Along with top-notch Single O coffee, the cafe will offer a full breakfast, brunch and lunch menu focusing on nailing the daytime classics – expect simple food done well (the same ethos adopted by Chloe and the team during their Paddock rein). Get excited, folks – Tarte is due to open around mid-August. We’ll give you an inside look in just a few short weeks! Until then, take a peek at its Instagram and ogle at the fit-out progress.
