The round-up: where to get a takeaway seafood feast for your Easter in isolation

Despite what’s going on around us, Easter isn’t cancelled – it’s just going to be a little different this year. Seafood lovers, Good Friday is still your time to shine and there are plenty of ways to safely get your fix of fishy goodness. The best and safest way is to plan ahead, so we’ve put together a handy list of popular seafood spots that are open for takeaways on Good Friday and across the Easter weekend this year, serving you everything from barramundi and chunky chips to fresh sashimi platters and tasty fish pies. Roll out the picnic rug in your backyard or lounge room and settle in for an Easter seafood feast, 2020 style!

The Fish Emporium, Isle of Capri: The popular waterfront restaurant will be open for takeaway on Good Friday, with daily local catches cooked to order so you can enjoy the Easter goodness at home. The take-home menu pleases all tastes – there’s classic fish and chips, fresh oysters, sashimi, seafood chowder, fish burgers, saltwater-prawn pasta, and bug risotto in a pink-champagne sauce. Head to the website for details.

Two Wise Fish, Mermaid Waters: If you’re chasing fresh fish, this renowned neighbourhood seafood haven has you sorted with everything from snapper to bugs and barramundi. You’ll also be able to grab fresh, cooked-to-order fish and chips to take home on Good Friday and Easter Saturday and Sunday, with signatures like snapper and chips, blue salmon, whiting and tasty flake. You can phone ahead and they’ll have to ready to go!

Peter’s Fish Market, Main Beach: This long-standing fish and chippery on Seaworld Drive is located right near the trawlers on the Broadwater, and is known for dishing up some of the freshest seafood in the city. It’s open on Good Friday and will be cooking up all of your favourites to order (best to phone ahead) so you can enjoy an at-home feast. Plus, Peter’s Fish Market also sells fresh fish if you’d prefer to grab a few portions and work your own culinary magic.

Restaurant Labart, Burleigh Heads: The weekly Labart at Home takeaway menu– which now includes home delivery – has been well received by locals. On the menu for Good Friday is a classic fish pie with potato, peas, spinach and cheddar, prepared by chef Alex Munoz Labart and the team – online pre-orders are essential. If you’re looking ahead, there are Easter Sunday lunch and dinner packs available, too – the two-person feast includes lamb shoulder with roast vegetables and buttered greens.

Millie Weirs Fish & Chippery, Paradise Point: Northern folk can get their fish-and-chip fix from Millie Weirs, which caters for all tastes and diets with its menu of classics and healthy options. There will be plenty of fresh seafood catches cooked to order here all day on Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Sunday. Plus, the menu is overly friendly to gluten- and dairy-free folk.

The Jolly Roger, Miami: Everything from traditional fish and chips to hauls of fresh oysters, burgers and even ketogenic fish and chips will be served up to-go at this neighbourhood gem on Good Friday and across the weekend. You can check out the takeaway menu on The Jolly Roger’s Facebook page – the team won’t be taking pre-orders on Good Friday, so just duck in to place your order and pay, then hang out in comfort of your car like a good human.

Inky Squid, Terranora: For those south of the border, Inky Squid has your Easter seafood covered. There will be plenty of locally caught fish specials on Good Friday, continuing across the weekend, with phone orders essential. Be sure to grab something sweet from the gelato freezer while you’re at it! Jump online to view the menu (and drool) before you order.

The North Room, Mermaid Beach: While its popular bento boxes have been flying out the door, The North Room has side-stepped slightly for Good Friday with a special one-off seafood feast, which will start with oysters, prawns and Fremantle octopus, followed by grilled white fish served with lemon, sauces and salad. Head to The North Room website for ordering details.

Charis Seafoods, Labrador: This is a bit of a seafood institution for those on the northern end. Luckily, you can still pick up some fish and chips, crumbed calamari, or a bag of freshly caught prawns and enjoy it at home with your favourite wine on Good Friday! The popular seafood haven will be open across the rest of the Easter weekend as well.

Little Itoshin, Miami: Prefer delicate sashimi to fish and chips? Little Itoshin will open for takeaway lunch and dinner from Good Friday to Easter Sunday, offering plenty of fresh, local seafood options. Choose from the likes of Itoshin’s famed sliced-to-order sashimi plates and its mouth-watering kingfish and salmon tataki, to assorted sushi platters and smaller bites like crackling prawn heads.

Chevron Island Seafoods, Chevron Island: Open on Good Friday and across the Easter weekend, this popular pitstop (which has been owned by the same family since 1995) will be dishing up takeaway packs of all of your favourites for an at-home seafood feast. The OG fish and chippery will have plenty of fresh catches being grilled and cooked to order each day – and you can also load up on the fresh salads while you’re at it.
