Sparrow Coffee Co flies into Nobby Beach to fill your morning with quality brews on the fly
Coffee is a non-negotiable part of our day – the only variable is where to get it. That in itself requires some forethought, because, as any coffee drinker (addict) can attest, a bad brew can ruin your day. If you have no time for a mediocre morning sip – go ahead and get excited for Sparrow Coffee Co’s brand-new coffee dispensary in Nobby Beach. The new takeaway nook is here to fuel your morning with quality brews on the fly.
When it comes to convenience, quality and timeliness – as a general rule, you can only choose two. If you want excellent coffee, for example, chances are you either have to go out of your way to get it or you’ll run the risk of being late for work waiting for it because the line is out the door. Similarly, if you want something quick and convenient, it’s likely not going to blow your socks off in terms of quality. It was this very conundrum that compelled long-time pals and hospitality heavyweights Tristan and Kassia Grier (Harvest), Brooke Hudson (co-founder of Harvest) and Michael Annetts (managing director) to open their first coffee dispensary in Bangalow back in 2014. The formula for consistently great coffee on-the-go proved to be a winner, as the group has gone on to replicate it in Byron Bay, Port Douglas and here on Gold Coast with an outpost in West Burleigh and now Nobby Beach. Born from their own experiences as sleep-deprived new parents, hospitality workers and airline crew juggling shift work and family commitments, Sparrow Coffee Co has been designed for busy people. Rather than simply adding a takeaway option to a broader cafe offering, Sparrow is first and foremost about the takeaway experience with the option to sit-in as secondary. Rounding out the trifecta, Sparrow’s baristas are trained to pump out high volumes of orders ensuring every single one tastes exactly like the one from yesterday and the day before.
The new Nobby Beach dispensary is light and bright with Mediterranean brickwork, mosaic tiles and an eye-catching mural handpainted by Christie Rigby – a throwback to the Gold Coast’s surf culture of the 1970s. Allpress Espresso flows through the machines and if time is of the essence, you can pre-order via Sparrow’s app (Apple or Play) so your coffee will be ready when you are. If you’re feeling a touch peckish, there’s a selection of baked goods from The Bread Social and Burleigh Baker, alongside guilt-free treats from Sweet Nectar and a selection of non-caffeinated sips from Byron Bay’s Mayde Tea.
Sparrow Coffee Co is open 5:00 am to 2:00 pm seven days.
