Sun-soaked sips – Southport Pavilion is set to open this weekend
There’s something about sipping and snacking in the sunshine that just hits different. While the Gold Coast boasts its fair share of pavilions, this weekend, we’re set to welcome one more – Southport Pavilion, which brings our total pavilion tally to five (joining the likes of Burleigh, Robina, Surfers and Pimpama). The light-and-bright new eatery has transformed the iconic waterfront site that was formerly home to De Vito Waterfront. Here’s everything you need to know …
Overlooking the glistening Nerang River with views to Surfers Paradise and the hinterland, Southport Pavilion occupies arguably one of the Gold Coast’s most iconic waterfront sites. So it stands to reason it might adopt one of the coast’s most iconic monikers. The venues owners, who also owned its musical predecessor, have grand plans to reignite the southern end of Southport and inject a little fun into the precinct. The aptly named sundeck, which is lined with picnic-style tables, is the ideal spot to surrender to sun-soaked long lunches, sundowners that roll effortlessly into evenings, and, of course, delightful dinners that kick on well into the evening. At either end is a couple of spacious cabanas that will feature bottle service, for those who wish to enjoy an elevated experience.
The impressive 300-seater features a familiar palette of Tiffany blue and crisp white, with a scattering of gold dotted throughout including an eye-catching feature wall. In terms of the menu, expect a tightly curated selection of pub-style classics with a spotlight on local and seasonal produce – think burgers, steak, charcuterie boards and snack plates such as karaage, haloumi fries and saucy wings. When it comes to the drinks, Southport Pavilion will be championing locally made beverages, Insta-worthy cocktails as well as non-alcoholic options. Although there will be no singing wait staff here (if you know, you know), you certainly won’t be sitting in silence with DJs and musicians keeping the vibes high. There are plans to introduce Sunday bottomless brunch, so keep your peepers peeled.
Southport Pavilion officially opens from 5:00 pm Saturday July 15. Skip over to our Stumble Guide for opening times.
