Relish taste sensations with help from condiment company Sidepiece
When it comes to perfecting a dish, condiments are crucially important. Be it a simple sandwich or salad, fiery spices, fruit-infused relishes and zesty dressings can take an ordinary meal to extraordinary levels. West End condiment company Sidepiece knows this to be true, and its small-batch fermented hot sauces, relishes and other condiments made from local produce and native bush foods are living proof that we all need to spice up our lives a little.
Now, let’s talk flavours. Sidepiece’s range is made using a smorgasbord of native ingredients and given added zest with some pretty packaging and flavours named after iconic songs. Stimulate your senses with Juicy (a fermented pineapple, finger-lime and habanero sauce) and the Juicy Fermented Spice Mix, which is made from the leftover pulp of the aforementioned sauce – dehydrated and blended to make a red-hot spice. Other must-have creations include The Recipe (a granny-smith apples and habanero relish) and the Hurt So Good (fermented using the infamous Carolina Reapers chilli, native riberry, maple syrup and Wood & Co. Sacarias Chavez Espresso Coffee), the latter being a collaboration with Highgate Hill speciality coffee shop Vvaldmeer, where it is exclusively sold. For those who like tickling their tastebuds, you can find Sidepiece’s condiments rocking the shelves at All My Friends Grocer in Highgate Hill, Keith’s Shop of Really Really Really Good Things in Murwillumbah and Papaya in Lennox Head. Sidepiece will be available online later in the year and has plans to release many more condiments, as well as contribute to Indigenous causes like the Seed Indigenous Youth Climate Network, which was co-founded by Silas’s sister, Millie. Keep your eye out on Instagram to see what the creative crew are up to in the meantime.
