The round-up: Broadbeach’s best breakfasts

The sun, surf and stretch of sand along Broadbeach is what attracts most to this central Gold Coast location but breakfast should also be on the agenda before you hit the beach. We’ve round-up some of our favourites to get your day off to a great start.

Try to ignore the gleaming blue of the Pacific for a moment and pay heed to your grumbling tummy. With more than its fair share of breakfast and brunch spots to tempt you, may just have trouble choosing. A block from the beach you’ll find the raw goodness of Bootleg Juice Bar with colourful acai bowls and a juicer that uses 12-tonnes of pressure to squeeze every nourishing drop from the produce into your drink. Just down the road you’ll find another joint doing rainbow bowls of acai, full of fruit and edible flowers. The Cardamom Pod opens for breakfast on weekends with a range nutritious vegan and vegetarian treats including the Notella; a bulging bowl of hazelnut mylk, hazelnut butter sprinkled with cacao nibs, hazelnut granola, espresso mousse and seasonal fruits. In the same vein, Brio Emporium champions clean eating but not at the expense of taste with a Breaky Box of activated muesli, peanut butter chia, vanilla and matcha Cocoyo. It’s also the spot if you’re in need of a real bulletproof coffee.

Stars of the silver screen, Orlando Bloom and Margot Robbie have both been spotted popping into Elk Espresso for breaky while they’re in town. Little wonder with a menu featuring the prettiest French toast on the Gold Coast, combining brioche with salt caramel, poached pears and liberal scattering of berries and flowers it really is a sight to behold. Coffee is single origin and served with any type of milk you like. Skull & Bones Espresso Boutique, along the main drag of the Gold Coast Highway, do a mean trade in Toby’s Estate coffee and boast the biggest range of bagels in Broadbeach. The cafe goes through thirty dozen bagels a week, both regular and gluten free, in every variety you can imagine. Whether you like them packed and stacked burger style with smoked salmon, a poached egg, cheese and cos lettuce, or a bagel BLT with added chicken or simply toasted with a side of berry mascarpone and pistachio dust, the choice is yours.

Ever-so slightly further inland and favourite with locals, Grocer and Grind’s menu features familiar classics such as bacon or salmon eggs benny and breakfast burger with the lot. It also famed for its luxurious truffle scrambled eggs with creamed leeks and sauteed wild mushrooms on toast. If a quick liquid breakfast is all that’s required head to No Name Lane where caffeine is king.
