Rick Shores brings its bug rolls north with a new takeaway pop-up in Main Beach
With mounting pressure for locals to stick close to their own suburbs, the team behind the Burleigh Heads dining icon Rick Shores has decided to spread the deliciousness north, opening a second pop-up takeaway restaurant in the heart of Main Beach. No matter what end of the coast you live on, the beachfront restaurant’s famed fare is now within reach – so you can absolutely enjoy bug rolls from the comfort of your couch, in your underwear, with a wine in hand. Let’s be honest, that’s a dream we never knew we had.
Rick Shores’ newly launched Tuk Shop takeaway offering has been extremely well received by southern folk and now its enticing new take-home concept is being replicated from a new pop-up space in the former Bistro Chico premises on Tedder Avenue. While the Tuk Shop menu changes each week, a selection of the restaurant’s signature bites and dishes are mainstays – including the Moreton Bay bug rolls assembled with gem lettuce and sriracha mayonnaise (there’s also a gluten-free version available), the karaage chicken with gochujang, and a raft of Rick Shores’ signature curries that can be mopped up with charred roti bread.
Expect to see the menu take a sidestep each week with new dishes (some exclusive to each location) like Singapore chilli-crab noodles with birds-eye-chill XO, chunky fries topped with pork laab, Thai spice sand sriracha mayonnaise, and katsu pork riblets with smoked hoisin and pickled daikon. While the Burleigh Heads location operates daily from midday, the Main Beach pop-up slings the takeaway goods from 4:00 pm Wednesday and Thursday, and from 12:00 pm Friday to Sunday. You can ring ahead or pre-order online and, if you pass on your car rego, they’ll bring it straight out to you.
