Mermaid Beach welcomes Ramshackle cafe

If you were saddened by the closure of Gov’s Espresso back in 2013, the good news is that the void has finally been filled. Ramshackle cafe has given the old space a new lease on life with a fresh lick of paint and some exciting things in the works.

By definition, ramshackle means dilapidated, derelict, shabby and bedraggled, which is, coincidentally, perfect for the space but in the best way possible. The mismatched furniture has been entirely sourced from roadsides, tip shops and ‘free to a good home’ on Gumtree and lovingly restored to create an eclectic environ for your morning coffee. Speaking of, the brew is proudly 100% local and 100% organic and is supplied by Silipo Coffee and transformed by James, the resident barista.

The eccentric visionary behind the new offering is Michelle Cannon, the glint in her eye suggests she’s a woman with ideas. The first of which is an art gallery that will feature the work of five artists including renowned Australiana artist D’Arcy Doyle. Michelle also has plans to establish a full kitchen inside a shipping container to showcase a constantly evolving selection of fare from local food makers but that’s a little way off yet. The space is indeed a work in progress but if you’re in the mood for a coffee and a snack from the cabinet, see our Stumble Guide for opening times.

The Stumble Guide is our comprehensive Gold Coast dining guide with more than 870 places to eat, drink, shop and play.
