Mermaid’s Push Espresso reveals new look and menu

Continuing the alcove’s recent renovations that started with BonBon bar and then The Glenelg Public House, Push Espresso in Mermaid Beach has reopened with a new look and a delicious new menu to boot.

Offering an inviting palette of white and timber, Push Espresso is a breath of fresh air against the dark and modish industrial trend that has swept across the city. The purposefully minimalist interiors are accentuated by a few pops of colour from some living greenery and framed scenes of blissful days by the water. The menu, created by the eatery’s new chef Hayley, takes a similar fuss-free approach and offers fresh and simple dishes that are packed with flavour. Containing all of your traditional morning favourites, the breakfast menu also offers some appetising new selections including the green goodness breakfast salad, sweet potato and chorizo hash and maple Canadian beans. Mid morning, the brunch/lunch menu takes over and offers some equally as tasty options including a tangy quinoa salad and pan-seared salmon resting atop a bed of rocket and peas tossed with salsa verde and dill mayonnaise. If you’re lucky, your visit may also coincide with a fresh batch of irresistible Nutella muffins.

The constant whir of the coffee machine suggests that the venue’s exclusive Proud Mary specialty coffee from Melbourne is a hit with locals and passers by. The house blend offers hints of plum, apricot jam and caramel sweetness and the single origin is sourced form Las Flores, Santa Barbara and offers a touch of sweetness with delicate florals and crisp acidity. Push Espresso is the work of Colby Wells, who set out to create a space to celebrate simple food and beautiful coffee matched by an atmosphere of inspiration and relaxation. Judging from the constant stream of people flowing in and out, she’s achieved her vision. For opening times or contact information, see our Stumble Guide.
