Pord brings art and wine to the head of the table

Although we’ve all considered doing it, cask wine is certainly not appropriate at a dinner party. While they are generally filled with undrinkable headache-inducing wines, these cardboard dispensers do have one thing going for them – convenience. That’s why we were delighted to come across Pord, an Australian company that has combined top-end wines with art to create a series of mini wine barrels that are worthy as the dinner table centrepiece.

Think of Pord as a reimagined way of consuming wine and art together. The mini barrels are filled with the equivalent of four bottles of quality locally sourced Australian wine, feature unique artworks and are produced in very limited runs. The launch of the first batch of designer barrels has seen the Pord team join forces with three talented female artists – Evi O., Filippa Edghill and Hannah Nowlan – who have each adapted pieces from their collections to be showcased on the barrels.

Pord has collaborated with renowned winery Mitchelton and selected a shiraz, a rosé and a pinot grigio from its 2017 and 2018 vintages, to be used for the flagship batch. The Pord experience is fully customisable, with each purchaser able to select from one of the three wines and pair it with their artwork of choice. Each one comes with a note from the artist and a hand-signed and numbered certificate of authenticity. The Pords are also designed to be repurposed into a  statement art piece – so they are not only stylish, but totally sustainable. You can pre-order your first Pord online now, with deliveries expected in October.
