Poké Face brings its authentic bowls of goodness to The Kitchens

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know that poke bowls are king. The fresh, vibrant bowls, which traditionally sees raw fish, fresh vegetables, rice and sauces come together for a flavoursome hit of nourishment, are frequenting the lips of the majority of health-conscious foodies. If you’re partial to a poke bowl, then you’d best get familiar with the coast’s newest addition, Poké Face. The way we see it – when there’s a menu item named after George Costanza, you know you’re in a good place.

Poké Face, which opened last week, is the latest pop-up tenant in The Kitchens at Robina Town Centre. Owner Calum Walters, who hails from Bondi, is the brains behind the Poké Face concept, which aims to bring a fresh, local and authentic approach to the massively popular poke bowl trend. Whilst the space at The Kitchens is temporary (you’ll find Poké Face there for the next six months), Calum hopes to establish his first bricks-and-mortar store on the Gold Coast in the very near future. Exciting, huh? We’ll keep you posted (it’s what we do). So, what you’ll find at the flagship Poké Face space is a selection of made-to-order poke bowls where you can choose from one of the six ‘house faves’, or if you’re really living on the edge, you can build your own bowl. Each poke bowl is served in a plant-based container brimming with quality ingredients and fresh local seafood, all served atop your choice of base – sushi rice, brown rice, glass noodles or fresh cabbage.

If raw fish is your jam, then you’ll be in heaven with the salmon and snapper sashimi bowls, served with super-fresh vegetables and flavour-packed house-made sauces. For those that share a love of cooked tuna with George Costanza himself, then The George bowl will be right up your alley, paired with shredded vegetables, green chilli, miso-ginger dressing and wasabi peas. There’s also a shredded chicken bowl topped with edamame, radish and cucumber for the less-fishy folk, and a tofu bowl with pickled ginger, sesame dressing and toasted coconut for the meat-free bandits. If you like to mix and match, then go nuts and curate your own bowl from an endless list of fresh ingredients and sauces.
