Pottsville restaurant Pipit is teaming up with Mermaid’s The North Room for a takeaway covid collab

With border restrictions in place, we’ve been cut off from some of our favourite Northern New South Wales restaurants. Though, for one day only, Gold Coasters will be able to get a taste of renowned Pottsville restaurant Pipit, with owner and chef Ben Devlin joining forces with Tim Stewart from Mermaid’s The North Room for a very delicious cross-border collab.

Here’s how it’s going down. Chef Ben Devlin is coming up this way for essential services on Thursday May 7 – so, he’s decided to bring a piece of Pipit up to the Gold Coast while he’s here. The two restaurants have banded together to create a combined menu that will feed two people for two nights – you’ll get a hot meal from The North Room for Thursday, and a refrigerated heat-and-serve meal from Pipit for the following night. All you need to do is pre-order online here before Tuesday May 5, then pick it up from The North Room on Thursday May 7 between 5:00–7:00 pm.

The special Pipit x The North Room pack (two sets of meals for two people) is $124. The ready-to-eat spread from The North Room starts with pretzel bread with housemade cultured butter, followed by whipped mullet roe, soured cucumbers and potato, then its famed bone-marrow crumpet with spanner crab, cultured cream and salted yolk. Next is duck leg with kohlrabi, preserved citrus and bush tomato, and a sprout, macadamia and yeast salad for the side. The heat-and-serve Pipit meal pack, which reflects the restaurant’s current Vietnamese lean, includes a pho noodle soup (duck or mushroom), a spanner-crab or pumpkin rice porridge, plus a surprise condiment jar for your pantry – think smoked macadamia butter, passionfruit curd, sugo sauce or pickles. There will also be a collection of wines available to purchase when you pick up your meals from The North Room.
