Few things come close to the satisfaction you get when devouring a hot, flaky pie. While the standard meat or vegetable pie with a squirt of tomato sauce is a great vibe, there’s a new player on the scene that is going to take your pie-eating experience to dizzying new levels. Like the sound of brioche cheeseburger pies, macaroni and cheese pies, and karaage chicken pies? Then follow your nose to Burleigh’s new seaside outpost, Pie Pie.

Nestled just a few steps back from Burleigh beach, Pie Pie is the first venue from Daniel and Paul Serpa – Sydney brothers who set their sights on bringing delicious boundary-pushing pies to our pastry-loving city. With items like The Danny Dorito and Shorty Mac on the menu, you can safely assume that this isn’t your regular pie shop – although while the menu is fun and inventive, the Serpa brothers take their pies very seriously. Absolutely everything (from the pastry to the tomato sauce) is made in house from scratch daily, all of the meat is grass fed and the produce is sourced locally. While the duo are confident in their pies, they know that not everybody is a pie fan (if that’s you, we need to talk), so they also offer a series of fresh and vibrant bowls, akin to a poke bowl, that sees pie fillings like 24-hour cooked chipotle beef brisket delicately served atop an arrangement of rice, salad and vegetables. There’s also a menu of hot jaffles with combinations like chorizo, potato bake and aioli, and beef-brisket bolognese with four cheeses, while coffee lovers can get an organic fix with local roaster Joy Beans providing the beans.

Okay, back to the pies. You can’t beat a classic, so if you want to keep it simple go for The Baker’s Original, which is lovingly jammed with chunky porterhouse steak, pulled brisket and root vegetables in a rich gravy, served with roasted vegetables on top. The Shorty Mac is filled with smoked chipotle beef in a bourbon sauce and topped with a four-cheese macaroni, while The Danny Dorito has an inner of Mexican-style brisket, nacho-cheese sauce and black beans, topped with lime guacamole and corn chips. There’s also the slow-cooked Souv-Lucky Lamb pie topped with fetta and minted broad-bean mash, a karaage chicken pie (for real) swimming in a teriyaki sauce, a grilled vegetable pie topped with grilled haloumi and pesto, and even a slow-cooked pulled-pork pie filled with potato bake and topped with chunky apple sauce and salty pork crackling. Though, The Mickey P has our hearts – a pie with a whole cheeseburger brioche slider (patty and all), rich tomato braised brisket and cheese sauce inside, topped with a respectable amount of tomato sauce and a few pickle slices. Excuse us, we need a moment alone.
