Sink a Stoned Lime from Pickled Pig Brewery
After growing weary of retirement, Paul Brewer set out to find a hobby and purchased a liquidated brewery in Tweed’s industrial corridor to indulge his love of beer. A few years later, Picked Pig Brewery’s range has expanded to 22 varieties and is popping up at restaurants and bars all over the Gold Coast and beyond.
You know how sometimes people’s professions match their name, like when you meet a dentist named Dr Payne or the lawyer that goes by the name Mr Sues, turns out there’s an actual name for it, it’s called an Aptronym. Paul Brewer from Picked Pig Brewery could very well be the best kind of Aptronym. Paul spends his days brewing beer, tasting beer and teaching others how to appreciate good beer.
Pickled Pig Brewery is fast becoming known for its chemical-free, preservative-free product that is being hailed ‘no hangover’ beer. The reason being that it is the added extras that cause post-booze headaches. Pickled Pig’s premium selection of lagers, ales, ciders, pilsners, beers and alcoholic ginger beer are made using the finest, malts, hops and grains available. Any infusions, such as the lime in the Stoned Lime beer, utilises locally-grown produce. The environmentally conscious folks at the brewery also use less water than their commercially produced counterparts, they promote recycling and are fitted with roof-top solar.
Partake in a brewery tour but for those who appreciate a more hands on approach, the Brew on Premises option is for you. Each brew makes approximately 50 litres of beer (this is equivalent to six cartons) and is ready for collection in two to four weeks from the day of brewing depending on your chosen flavour of ale. As it is preservative-free it has to be stored cold, which presents a pickle for home fridges however once you get a swig of the goods, you’ll appreciate the extra effort.
