The Brickworks Centre on Ferry Road welcomes new addition Pearl & Ash
For the past few months, we’ve all been patiently waiting for what would fill the expansive space left vacant by Spendelove cafe at The Brickworks Centre on Ferry Road. Last week, the lid was lifted on the precinct’s fresh new face – a cafe and wine bar by the name of Pearl & Ash.
The 100-seat venue, which sits at the main entrance to The Brickworks Centre, now sports a sleek new aesthetic, combining concrete benches with blush-pink walls and a touch of neon lighting to give the space a new lease on life. Coffees from Melbourne-born specialty roaster Locale start pouring at 7:00 am daily, with both a seasonal blend and a Peruvian organic bean on offer. Those looking for breakfast, a lazy brunch or a long wine-fuelled lunch will be in good hands. Of a morning you’ll find favourites like the too-pretty-to-eat granola, arranged around a dragonfruit panacotta with lime-infused coconut yoghurt, chorizo and scrambled-egg rolls, crispy free-range pork-belly eggs Benedict with pancetta crisps, and warming shakshouka baked eggs with punchy piquillo peppers.
For brunch and beyond, expect a range of dishes from the land and sea. There’s classics like wild-mushroom bruschetta with goats chevre, as well as more refined options with a slight Japanese lean, such as crispy calamari with pickled daikon and nori salt, king salmon with snow peas and broccolini in a white-miso and ginger broth, and aromatic green-lipped mussels served with organic sourdough. Carnivorous folk can tuck into the likes of a succulent 300-gram rib-eye fillet with house frites and umami butter, or a hearty wagyu beef burger with crispy bacon, pickles, ‘bacon jam’ and special sauce in a charcoal sesame bun.
But wait, there’s more – Pearl & Ash will be launching after-dark trade soon, so that Friday lunch can continue on into evening nibbles and wine, where you’ll be able to work your way through its extensive cellar list. Keep an eye on its social media pages for word on when it launches.
