Pavement Whispers: Pink Monkey, Fig & Frankie’s and Double Barrel’s new waterfront venue

From news of Burleigh’s newest rooftop bar to Double Barrel’s new waterfront restaurant, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news on the Gold Coast, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Fig & Frankie’s
A quaint, peach-hued laneway bar by the name of Fig & Frankie’s is due to open its doors in Broadbeach this spring! Located in the laneway that links Cha Cha Japanese restaurant to Main Place (the backstreet behind The Phoenician), the pocket-sized bar and dining space will have a strong lean toward cocktails, with a tight series of crafted concoctions to be served alongside a collection of share plates and snacks. It’ll be fun and cosy affair inside with a group-seating booth and bar stools, further seating to extend out into the laneway. Fig & Frankie’s is slated to open in early October – we’ll give you a peek inside and a full rundown in a few weeks time!

Pink Monkey
All eyes have been firmly on the mammoth double-storey venue coming to life on the Gold Coast Highway in Burleigh (next door to Justin Lane in the former Globe building). Last week, an unmissable neon sign lit up, officially marking the spot for what will soon be Pink Monkey Rooftop Bar & Grill! While it’s not open just yet (it’s very close) we’ve been given a few details on what to expect. It’s essentially a rooftop bar and grill, serving fine cuts of aged meats, woodfired pizzas and chargrilled share plates. It’ll boast killer views over Burleigh Heads and towards the beach, and the bar will be serving a fun range of tipples, from vibrant shared cocktails to a rotating selection of craft beers. Pink Monkey Rooftop Bar & Grill, which is set to operate seven days from 11:00 am, is due to open to the public before the end of September. Keep your eyes peeled – we’ll have all of the details and a look inside very soon!

Double Barrel Kitchen & Bar
The owners of popular Mermaid Waters cafe Double Barrel Kitchen are spreading their goodness north with a second venture – a waterfront dining venue named Double Barrel Kitchen & Bar. Located within Sunland’s striking new Marina Concourse development in Benowa, the sleek new cafe, eatery and bar will serve breakfast and lunch daily, and will open for dinner Friday and Saturday, followed up by champagne-soaked Sunday afternoon sessions. The breakfast menu will feature refined cafe classics (similar to its Mermaid Waters sibling), before transitioning into a modern Australian menu for lunch and dinner. The doors are set to open in early October – we’ll have a sneak peek for you very soon!
