Pavement Whispers: Robina Pavilion, Palmy’s new burger joint and celebrity pizzerias

From whispers of new burger joints to the soon-to-open Robina Pavilion, The Weekend Edition Gold Coast is always on the search for the latest news on the Gold Coast, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Robina Pavilion
The longstanding Robina Tavern is in the final stages of a $4-million transformation and will soon be known as Robina Pavilion. The extensive enhancement works, which kicked off in February and are to be fully completed by the end of November, will see the venue split into a number of different dining precincts, each with their own identity. The main dining area will be The Brasserie, which will feature an aged-meat drying section (with the ability for diners to buy meat and store/age it on site), which will flow into the sports bar known as The Public House. The deck area, named Sunny’s, will boast its own food and beverage offering (think woodfired pizzas and Aperol spritzes in the sunshine), while another area called The Lakeside will feature waterfront daybeds with dedicated service, which you can book with a minimum spend. The kids will be kept busy in the Marco Polo area – a dedicated children’s zone with oversized games like giant Jenga. We’ll have more details and a peek inside Robina Pavilion later this month.

Pattysmiths Palm Beach
We’ve only just digested the news that Melbourne burger chain Pattysmiths has arrived on the Gold Coast – and now there’s another site underway! The coast’s second Pattysmiths venue will open in Palm Beach in late November. Located in the Pavilions Shopping Centre on the corner of Fifth Avenue and the Gold Coast Highway, the casual burger bar will feature the same renowned menu that has put the Melbourne-born chain on the map – there’s everything from cheeseburgers to the indulgent mac’n’cheese katsu burger and decadent fried-chicken burgers, as well as shakes, fries, sides and sundaes. After making its mark with three venues in Victoria, Pattysmiths is on a Queensland crusade, opening first in Toowoomba, then recently in Merrimac. It’s Palm Beach venue will be promptly followed by a site in Rockhampton. We’ll keep you posted on the opening of Palm Beach!

Jamie’s Pizzeria
In early October we dropped the news that Australia’s first Jamie Oliver’s Pizzeria was opening right here on the Gold Coast – at Pacific Fair Shopping Centre to be exact. Now, we can reveal that the doors will be opening next week! Owners the Hallmark Group has announced the landmark Gold Coast restaurant will open its doors to sling pizzas (and more) to the public on Saturday November 16 at 10:00 am. Occupying a 148-sqm space in The Patio dining precinct (near Event Cinemas), the venue will be bright, fresh and colourful with the kitchen area on display to create a theatrical experience for diners – expect to see hand-stretched Italian-style pizza bases tossed in the air, before being topped with fresh, local ingredients and baked to perfection before your eye. So there you go – it’s just days away. We’ll give you a peek inside next week, sit tight!
