Melbourne-born burger bar Pattysmiths is continuing to expand its footprint in the South East, recently firing up the grills at its third Gold Coast location. First it was Merrimac, then Palm Beach and now it’s the northern end’s turn to get their mitts around the Pattysmiths goodness, with the doors to its new Upper Coomera outpost recently swinging open – much to the delight of burger fiends on the city’s north.

If you’re not entirely familiar with Pattysmiths, let us do the honours. Like metalsmiths are considered master craftsmen of metal, Pattysmiths claims to have perfected the art of hand-crafted burger patties – and the brand believes that burgers are only as good as the patty inside. Its chefs, fondly known as ‘patty smashers’ (excellent title), work with a signature blend of wagyu and Angus beef to create the famed patties, which are lovingly hand-smashed on a custom-built iron plate to create a distinct golden crust – the hero of its moreish burger offering.

The menu is loaded with plenty of options to suit both the burger traditionalists and those that really like to push the boundaries of what a burger can be. The classic cheeseburger (beef patty, American cheddar, house pickles, ketchup, mustard and blanched onions) or The Original, which adds Pattysmiths’ special sauce, lettuce and tomato to the mix, are great ways to get acquainted. There are also variations of crunchy battered-chicken burgers on the menu, as well as a panko-crumbed mushroom burger and a vegan burger using a plant-based patty on a glazed vegan bun. If you’re a boundary pusher, go for the Mac & Cheese Royale – a beef patty and a mac’n’cheese katsu patty with American cheddar, special sauce, ketchup, mustard, lettuce and tomato. The menu also branches out into fried chicken, served in packs or on top of waffles with maple bacon and soft-serve, and there are plenty of sides to tack on like loaded onion rings topped with cheese, bacon and spring onion, as well as both beer-battered chips and traditional French fries. Wash it all down with a thick shake, and be sure to save a little room for a sundae.
