Pavement Whispers: waffle bars, Bombay vibes and magical waterfront spaces
From whispers of upmarket Indian to sweet waffle bars, The Weekend Edition Gold Coast is always on the search for the latest news on the Gold Coast, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …
Oh My Waffle
Please sit down before reading this. Are you ready? A dedicated waffle bar is coming to the Gold Coast. Oh My Waffle is due to open in late December underneath the Ambience tower in Burleigh Heads, just a few skips from the beachfront. The 75-sqm boutique dessert bar, which is taking over part of the space where the 24-hour gym once was (heh), will feature a bunch of specialty waffles towering with ice-cream and delicious toppings, and there will also be a make-your-own-waffle option. There will also be fancy milkshakes, hot chocolates and coffees to wash the waffle goodness down with. Oh My Waffle is only a few weeks off – we’ll have all the delicious details when the doors to this sweet new hang swing open.
The Bombay Cricketers Club
The Salt Village precinct is about to get a spicy new addition, with vibrant new restaurant The Bombay Cricketers Club to open in the southern precinct by the year’s end. This one comes from the team behind Osteria in Casuarina and Taverna in Kingscliff, so you can safely assume this latest dining space is going to be pretty darn special. The new venue, inspired by the Indian subcontinent, will see renowned Indian chef Ved Navghare, former sous chef of Melbourne’s esteemed restaurant Tonka, heading the kitchen. The Bombay Cricketers Club will deliver an edgy menu that focuses on a variety of cuisines native to India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan and South East Asia. We’re equal parts excited and hungry. Keep your eyes peeled – we’ll have all the details for you when the doors open.
Ancora
If you thought the dream team from Osteria and Taverna had their hands full with the before-mentioned Bombay Cricketer’s Club, think again. Ancora in Tweed Heads, located where Higher Ground fish and chippery once was on Wharf Street, is another project being rolled out as we speak. There are two elements to Ancora – a casual waterfront eatery and a wedding and events space. The weddings and events offering has launched and wedding bookings at the dreamy waterfront venue are being taken from March 2018. Ancora’s casual eatery will also open its doors by March, set to offer Mediterranean-style dining in prime position overlooking the Tweed River. There’s so much southern goodness on the way – we’ll keep you posted on Ancora in the new year.
