Pavement Whispers: new retro clubs, valley estates, more coffee houses

From whispers of 80s nightclubs to specialty coffee houses, The Weekend Edition Gold Coast is always on the search for the latest news on the Gold Coast, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Retros Cocktail Lounge
If your Spotify playlist is always streaming the best of the 80s, 90s and naughties (yeah, we’ll put our hands up there), then there’s a new club coming to town and you’ll totally want to hit it. Popular Brisbane club Retros Cocktail Lounge is coming to the Gold Coast, with the new venue on Orchid Avenue to open by October. As the name suggests, Retros is all about shining the (disco) light on all of the best parts from the past few decades – think fish-bowl cocktails, Spice Girls and double denim. Keen for a little bump ‘n grind? We’ll have all the details for you when it opens.

Estate by Fins
Esteemed chef Steven Snow of Fins in Kingscliff is showing no signs of hanging up his 21 chefs hats any time soon. Estate by Fins is the next venture for ‘Snowy’ and his wife and sommelier Morgan, who are currently celebrating the 25th birthday of Fins restaurant. The double storey homestead near Tropical Fruit World, with views overlooking Mount Warning, will become a wedding and events venue with capacity of around 300. The impressive northern New South Wales estate will host everything from lunchtime soirees to elegant garden weddings, highlighted by Fins renowned ethos of creating simple food with fresh, local produce. Estate by Fins opens this Sunday September 10.

Zi Espresso
Caffeine lovers, this is for you. Scarborough Street in Southport is getting a new specialty coffee house. Zi Espresso is due to open by October, and whilst coffee will well and truly be king, you’ll also find a health-conscious breakfast and lunch menu, featuring everything from smoothies and acai, to salads and (for a little bit of balance) a swag of baked treats. The coffee-focussed venue is only a few short weeks away – we’ll have more details when the doors swing open and the coffee is pouring.
