Negative210 ice-creamery opens in Surfers Paradise

Negative210, the Gold Coast’s first liquid-nitrogen ice-creamery, has opened next to Max Brenner at Chevron Renaissance in Surfers Paradise and is handcrafting a delectable array of flash-frozen bowls of bliss right in front of you.

Starting with a regular bowl of cream, the mixologists throw in a heavenly selection of ingredients including peanut butter, pretzels, chocolate chips and chocolate fudge (that’s called the Seven Months Pregnant, in case you were wondering) and then blasts the lot with liquid nitrogen. As the fog clears, you get your fist glimpse at ice-cream that is so smooth and creamy regular ice-cream will cry at its inadequacy. The secret to its creamy consistency is that the nitrogen freezes at -210 Celsius allowing the ice-cream to freeze before ice crystals have the opportunity to grow.

Negative210’s dessert experiences include the likes of I Don’t Like Mondays, combining chocolate flavour, slithered almonds and caramel; as well as the George CantStandYa that features pecans, chocolate chips and caramel fudge to satisfy your sweet tooth. Owners Ash and Matt and their obliging friends and family have personally concocted each one of the delectable combinations, however they also welcome suggestions from the public.

For the daring (and possibly crazy), Negative210 has thrown down the When Hell Freezes Over challenge that invites you to try to conquer The World’s Hottest Ice-Cream in half an hour. The slow-building chilli concoction blends chocolate flavour, cinnamon and house-made chilli powder. Seven have tried and seven have failed the almighty test.

Liquid-nitrogen ice-creameries have been popping up in urban centres around the country, however Negative210 is the first of its kind for the Gold Coast. See our Stumble Guide for details.
