Mr Potato brings its (healthy) loaded spuds to Palm Beach

Okay, we’ll come right out and say it – we love potatoes in all their forms! Mashed, roasted, cut into chips and fried – we can’t get enough. But somewhere along the line, the notion that carbs are bad started to grow, and potatoes – being a big source of carbs – had to be bad by association. Thankfully for fellow carb-lovers, Mr Potato is here to stick a fork in that fallacy with its mouth-watering array of loaded potatoes. These spunky spuds can be as healthy or as ‘naughty’ as you like (hellooo extra bacon and cheese) and what’s more, this Palm Beach-based potato place officially opens on Saturday December 6. Here’s what you need to know …

Putting a modern twist on an old classic, Mr Potato is here to save you from boring work lunches and nutritionally compromised takeaway. It works kind of like Subway, except instead of choosing your bread, you choose between an IQ spud (which boasts more potassium than a banana and has 25-percent less carbs than a regular white potato) or a sweet potato (which is full of vitamins and minerals and sustains your body with slow-release energy). Next, you need to load it up. Choose from a selection of tried-and-tested favourites from the pre-loaded menu or go rogue and build your own. If you can handle some heat, the Drop It Like It’s Hot is an excellent place to start with crispy bacon, red onion, roast capsicum, jalapenos, chilli flakes and lashings of Sriracha (yum!). For meat-free mates, there is a separate plant-based menu to peruse, however The Medi-Tator topped with tofu, cauliflower, peas, corn, red onion, kale slaw, avocado, salsa, vegan sour cream and vegan cheese shreds is a tasty treat. All potatoes come with your choice of low-fat or Tasty cheese, sour cream, spring onions and sauce but, of course, there are plenty of options to pimp your spud.

Mr Potato is on a mission to reeducate the public and change the stigma of the humble tater. The new Palm Beach-based eatery, which is conveniently positioned on the Gold Coast Highway opposite Balboa Italian, is the brand’s first franchised location, joining three sister spaces in Adelaide. The idea came about two years ago when health-conscious couple Jess Davis (a model and founder of Australian Supermodel of the Year) and Tyson Hoffmann (36’s basketball player) found themselves on the hunt for affordable, convenient and healthy options to grab-and-go that weren’t one of the usual suspects. Unable to satiate their craving, they began building their own potato empire and the rest, as they say, is history. Tyson’s sister Shanay Hoffmann will be at the helm of Mr Potato’s Palm Beach locale.

To celebrate the opening of Mr Potato Palm Beach, the crew will be slinging free spuds on Saturday December 5 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm unless sold-out prior. Roll over to our Stumble Guide for address details.
