The round-up: Mother’s Day on the Gold Coast
Sure, you could spend hours roaming around the shopping centre in search of the perfect gift for your mum this Mother’s Day, however sometimes, it’s the intangible gifts that mean the most. Give the gift of quality time and make some memories this Mother’s Day over a fabulous feast and maybe a champagne or two. We’ve round up some cafes and restaurants that will provide the perfect backdrop for your feast.
Because nothing says celebration quite like alcohol in the morning, treat your mum to a champagne breakfast. If funds are tight, pack some home-style jam, a couple of knives, a picnic blanket, maybe a couple of pillows or two, a bottle of bubbles (or orange juice) and some glasses in a picnic basket and swing by Burleigh Baker to pick up a couple of delicious fresh croissants and pull-up a spot on Burleigh hill. If however, you have a little extra cash to splash, Elston in Surfers Paradise is a great choice for breakfast. Watch the waves roll in as you tuck into some Nutella pancakes (because kilojoules don’t count when you’re making memories) or if your mum is more of a green juice or coffee in the morning kind of lady then Elk Espresso in Broadbeach dishes up a pretty amazing breakfast from 6:30 am, as does Grocer and Grind.
If morning isn’t your ideal time of day for memory making, Vintage Velvet in Surfers Paradise is a fantastic option for a lazy long afternoon lunch. There will be live music from Russ Walker from 2:00 pm. While we’re up that way, Paradox Coffee Roasters is putting on a three-course Mother’s Day menu for $35 per person. Clifford’s Grill & Lounge adds a side of stylish sophistication to your feast and if you want to step it up a few notches and really impress your parental, the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort is turning it on with a delicious buffet lunch that includes a glass of G.H. MUMM Cordon Rouge Brut on arrival alongside a mouth-watering array of fare including fresh seafood direct from the trawler. On the topic of buffets, BAZAAR at QT Gold Coast also promises a smorgasbord for the senses. The fanciful fare at Ristorante Fellini at Marina Mirage never fail to impress and if hearty Italian piqued your interest, take a seat out on the terrace at Cucina Vivo at Jupiters Hotel & Casino. The fine Italian eatery is putting on a special Mother’s Day menu that features a tantalising variety of insalata, authentic wood-fired pizzas, and piatti forti with roast lamb shoulder, chicken cacciatore, pappardelle, and roasted Atlantic salmon. To top it all off, indulge in an assortment of Italian-inspired desserts including torta caprese, cannoli and a selection of chocolates. The buffet package is $95 per person and includes Prosecco and strawberries or popular Italian beer Birra Moretti.
Back down the coast, Social Eating House and Bar plates up a curious and wondrous culinary feast or mosey on over to JåMm dining and bar to enjoy a sophisticated experience that invokes all of your senses. If you fancy some tapas, Espana Tapas Bar in Broadbeach will leave you sufficiently chuffed with your choices in life. Kiyomi at Jupiters Hotel & Casino is playing up a delicious seven-course menu that features Hiramasa kingfish with miso ceviche, Chef Chase Kojima’s signature crispy rice and spicy tuna and tantalising Moreton Bay Bugs. If it’s Japanese fare that takes your fancy, you’ll also love Etsu Izakaya in Mermaid Beach. If you’re harbouring a hankering for Mexican, it’s hard to go past Bonita Bonita.
In Nobbys, Sparrow Eating House is a celebration of everything you love about eating out. The varied menu offers something for all tastes and includes selections such as cold rare beef fillet with whipped horseradish butter infused with white truffle oil and served with corn bread as well as a puff-pastry banoffee jaffle with salted caramel. While slightly further down the road in Burleigh Heads, Cavalier Bar and Supper and Finders Keepers are perfect for a sophisticated soiree. For low-key mums, hit up Tom Uglys or Justin Lane Pizzeria & Bar for a delicious wood-fired pizza. Down Palm Beach way, Avvia Cafe and Restaurant is offering a special Mother’s Day menu that includes an entree of silky Spanner crab soup and either a grilled Rib Eye steak or a potato crusted Salmon fillet with an upside down pineapple cake with vanilla bean and goats cheese mousse for dessert. Take mum to soak up the atmosphere at Pablo Pablo’s Sunday session with seafood paella and sangria, or indulge in a hearty American feast at Palm Beach’s newest eatery, Lester & Earl. If it’s a nice sunny day, head south and enjoy lunch overlooking the ocean at Coolangatta. Bin 72 and Kazbah are both perfectly placed for a long lunch with delicious food and maybe a cocktail or two.
