Since opening in November of last year, Mermaid Beach’s Meda Deli has been quietly amassing a following of charcuterie-loving folk and foodies far and wide who flock here for one reason, quality. Damian and Amela Dzuderija have curated a selection of products and brands Damian has aligned with over 30 years as a chef. From the impressive selection of cheese to the house-made sauces and cured meats aplenty. Whether you’re a regular or you’re discovering Meda Deli for the very first time, we have some exciting news – Damian and Amela have launched Meda Nights, which means they’re keeping the coffee machine firing and deli delights coming well into the evening. Here’s everything you need to know …

If you’ve attempted to drive along the Gold Coast Highway through Mermaid Beach of late, you’re well acquainted with the parking situation. For those who haven’t, let’s just say that parking can be problematic during daytime hours. Although that was the catalyst, it wasn’t the only reason to keep the lights on. “We’ve always wanted Meda to be accessible to customers, we want people who finish work after 6:00 pm to be able to come in and enjoy the deli at night,” Damian says. “We love the idea of a late-night delicatessen. I don’t think there’s anything else like this on the Gold Coast, I think we’re doing something really different and exciting.” Meda Deli will continue to operate during the daytime hours and stay open until 9:00 pm from Tuesday to Saturday. The fridge will be stocked with cold cuts and cheese alongside a seriously mouth-watering array of meals.

The venue’s much-loved sandwich menu will be available in its entirety alongside six kinds of freshly made pasta from The Pasta Emporium that is tossed with house-made sauce and can be ready in as little as five minutes. “It’s gourmet fast food, you can come in and have a really, really good quality meal that’s literally ready in minutes,” he says. In addition to the seriously drool-inducing sandwiches, Damian has also created a selection of meals including schnitzel with truffle mortadella, Napoli sauce and gooey gruyere alongside lasagne and moussaka that is ready to enjoy at home, or you can nab a table out the front. A far cry from the heat and eat supermarket meals, you should know that Damian uses the store as his cool room, meaning that every single dish contains the best of the best in terms of quality. “The lasagne uses the most ridiculous quality cheeses – the parmesan is reggiano and we use Swiss gruyere for melting,” Damian explains. “The idea for Meda has always been to push the social side, we want people to come in and have a relaxed experience and eat really good quality food.” And yes, before you ask, there’s plenty of street parking after hours!
