Meat & Co fires up the grills in Broadbeach with prime cuts, saucy ribs and juicy burgers
Carnivores, there’s a finger-licking new player in Broadbeach that you’ll want to put on your radar. Meat & Co has recently opened its doors on Surf Parade (beneath The Phoenician), dishing up a salivation-inducing spread of steaks, ribs, burgers, feasting platters and saucy delights.
The hearty new concept is the handiwork of avid meat-eater Gav Sandhu and chef Abii Sharma, who have joined forces to shine a light on quality cuts of beef and succulent meats. Slabs of steak, ribs (pork, lamb and beef), chicken wings and skewered meats are marinated and slowly basted in secret sauces while being cooked to perfection over a South African-style open-flame grill. The carnivorous menu is complemented by a wine list of mostly South African drops, as well as a collection of seasonal cocktails – Meat & Co’s signature barrel-aged old fashioned is a good place to start.
Small plates like barbecued chicken wings, grilled haloumi and traditional boerewors (South African sausage) feature on the list of starters, acting as a prelude to the drool-worthy selection of meaty mains and toothsome share platters. There’s half and full racks of saucy ribs, half or whole grilled chickens served with salad and chips, and juicy burgers (using basted beef patties) to wrap your mitts around. Steak lovers can select from premium cuts like Black Onyx rump, Jack’s Creek Wagyu Striploin, and a mammoth 1-kg Cape Grim tomahawk, which all arrive with your choice of chips, salad or roasted potatoes. Can’t decide? Go for one of the feasting platters – you’ll get a taste of everything, along with sides and housemade sauces. Meat & Co also retails its steaks, so if you’re barbecuing at home, drop in and grab your favourite cut from the butcher’s display at the rear of the restaurant.
