Surf icon McTavish opens the doors to Byron Bay’s newest coffee hang
Surfboards, coffee and food. If you agree that these are three of life’s necessities, then you’d best get yourself familiar with Byron Bay’s latest hang – the all-new McTavish showroom – where you’ll find Allpress coffee, gourmet creations from Three Blue Ducks and handcrafted surfboards all under one roof.
Iconic surfboard manufacturer McTavish has lifted the lid on its rad new cafe and showroom space – the first and most significant transformation the renowned premises, located in the Byron Bay Arts and Industry Park, has seen in more than 20 years. What the McTavish team set out to create was a space where people could come after a morning surf, have a coffee and a bite to eat, share stories and check out the showcase of premium surfboards, each of which are uniquely crafted by hand in the company’s long-standing Byron Bay facility. What’s cool about McTavish is that it’s a real down-to-earth family business – so, expect to see company founder Bob McTavish having a morning brew in his boardies and having a chat to locals.
Alongside tasty brews from Allpress beans, the new McTavish showroom and coffee space will feature a daily spread of cakes, treats and savouries delivered every morning by renowned Byron Bay and Sydney establishment Three Blue Ducks, which runs the restaurant, cafe and produce store at The Farm in nearby Ewingsdale. Everything in the food cabinet arrives fresh daily, and there’s plenty of seating for that post-surf debrief. This whole concept of combining retail and showroom space with coffee and tasty bites is a seriously good vibe. Here’s a plan for next time you’re down Byron way – nab a few glassy sliders at The Pass, then go straight to the McTavish showroom for a latte, a croissant from baked fresh by Three Blue Ducks and soak up the showroom’s handcrafted goodness. Friendly word of warning – you’ll find it pretty hard to walk out of here without a board under your arm.
