Marie Anita’s spreads its gluten-free wings to Mermaid Beach
Marie Anita’s, the Gold Coast cafe renowned for being entirely gluten and sugar free, has made the move from Burleigh Heads into a wonderful new space in Mermaid Beach. The new digs, which opened this week, sees Marie Anita’s retain its wholesome, simplistic and local ethos, whilst expanding its delicious bakery offerings (hellooo fresh-baked bread) and utilising the outdoor garden for events and night trade.
As the saying goes – when one door closes, another one opens. So, whilst we bid adieu to eatery Fingers and Bones, we’re delighted to see a renowned establishment like Marie Anita’s take over the unique Gold Coast Highway-fronting space in Mermaid Beach. The venue’s rustic turquoise and timber-clad interior remains, though owner Marie James and the team have already a created homely feel, with aromas of coffee, fresh-baked bread, raw honey and native plants adding to the vibe. For now, the menu remains the same as what we were treated to at the original Burleigh Heads space, though the talented team are currently working on a new menu, which will launch in the coming weeks. The outdoor garden area will become fully functional in a few weeks time too, and will not only provide additional seating, but will also create the perfect setting for the planned night time organic garden feasts (we’ll keep you posted on those) as well as private events.
Now, for those not entirely familiar with the Marie Anita’s fare, think chunky wild rice salads, organic mung bean burritos, raw organic spaghetti bolognese, and pan-seared wild caught fish with raw green tahini sauce. Everything is fresh, local and (to put it simply) good for you. Whether you’re into raw, vegan, paleo, gluten free, free range foods, or just want to eat green and organic, then the extensive breakfast and lunch menus will suit your discerning tastebuds. With a much larger kitchen, Marie Anita’s is really spreading its wings when it comes to the bakery element – the range of house-baked artisan breads will expand, along with the offering of delicious sweet treats and baked savouries. Side note – if you have never experienced Maria Anita’s amazing range of raw treats, then you need to address this situation (immediately). The raw peppermint slice is a good place to start.
