Eagle-eyed travellers along the Gold Coast Highway may have spied a fresh lick of paint and some pretty new breeze blocks framing the high-profile site cornering First Avenue in Burleigh Heads. That, friends, is Magnolia Lane and it’s here to inject a hearty dose of caffeine and gratitude into your day. The casual new eatery opened its doors just prior to the Gold Coast’s recent week-long lockdown but is now open to sit-down patrons.

If there’s anything at all this crazy new world has taught us, it’s that time – and how we choose to spend it – is precious. Caffeinated catch-ups, meals with mates, or just sitting and savouring a moment of solace – it’s all stuff that we took for granted 18 months ago. Not anymore. Magnolia Lane is here to remind us to appreciate these ‘ordinary’ moments in everyday life with a sizeable inscription on the outside wall that reads ‘Today I am grateful for …’. The new neighbourhood locale was brought to life by a group of like-minded locals who share an appreciation for excellent coffee, tasty nosh and pretty spaces. Magnolia Lane ticks every one of those boxes with an all-day menu that spans from classic morning meals such as acai bowls, B&E rolls and chilli scrambled eggs with crisp bacon through to savoury lunch-time selections including the popular Moroccan lamb plate, which is piled high with a stack of braised-lamb shoulder, sauteed greens, couscous and topped with fetta and dukkah.

If there’s one thing the crew take pretty seriously, it’s their brews. Magnolia Lane uses beans from Victoria’s Inglewood Coffee Roasters with every shot measured and poured to perfection – another thing we are grateful for. Rounding out the trifecta, Magnolia Lane features a pretty palette of bright-white, light timber and olive green. If the sun is shining, the patio bathed in dappled light is the primo place to pull up a seat, but there are also a handful of tables inside. Just a short stroll from the beach, Magnolia Lane is also well-placed to service the grab-and-go crowd who are keen to caffeinate and keep moving. Excitingly, the ownership team behind the Burleigh eatery has revealed plans for the adjoining premises – sharing the patio will be KAMI, which will specialise in Southeast Asian cheap eats. The shared kitchen will service Magnolia Lane by day and KAMI of an evening, meaning you’ll never have to go without bites and brews from the cute corner space. As always, we’ll have all of the delicious details for you as they come to light.
