Little Wahaca Latin food truck hits the streets
Named after the southwestern state of Mexico, Oaxaca (pronounced Wahaca), Little Wahaca is the newest addition to the Gold Coast’s fleet of food trucks and specialises in mixed Latin American food with a modern twist.
One peek at the menu and it’s pretty clear that Little Wahaca is not your average food truck grub. With delightfully crispy, flaky empanadas filled with a gooey soft-boiled free-range egg, fresh ceviche salads with local snapper, and gorditas, which are kind of like a cross between a taco and an arepa, made with fresh masa pockets and loaded with braised pork cheek, Little Wahaca is setting the standard high. Slurp on a serve of chilled horchata, a deliciously sweet Mexican beverage that contains rice, coconut, vanilla and cinnamon, or satisfy your sweet tooth with a helping of smoked corn ice-cream with salted caramel for dessert.
Little Wahaca is a family affair for chef Trent Mitchell, who has spent the past five or so years honing his skills at Espana Tapas Bar in Broadbeach. Keep your peepers peeled for the olive green 1940s-style caravan at Gold Coast Design Collective Markets at Currumbin as well as various food truck events around the Gold Coast and even the odd Sunday afternoon at Burleigh Brewing Co. Little Wahaca is available for weddings and private events.
