From the owners of Tommy’s Italian comes Little Tommy’s – a spirited neighbourhood pizzeria
Since opening in September 2021, Tommy’s Italian has set the scene for countless long lunches, spirited sundowners and wine-fuelled evenings. It’s become a prized addition to the Gold Coast’s culinary landscape and now, we’ve been gifted a takeaway-centric sibling called Little Tommy’s. Here’s everything you need to know …
It’s not at all surprising that Tommy’s Italian has become the overwhelming success that it is given the venue’s moreish menu, sharp service and, of course, that view. What was less expected, however, was the sheer volume of requests for takeaway. This was the catalyst for Tom Torchut and Ronnie Tarabay to begin scouting for a secondary space nearby. Positioned just 500-m down the road from Tommy’s Italian, Little Tommy’s has opened on Duringan Street and, if opening weekend is anything to go by, it’s another stellar success for the business partners. While it’s not uncommon for Tommy’s to draw a crowd from as far afield as Byron Bay and Brisbane, Little Tommy’s is envisaged as a cruisy neighbourhood pizzeria and bar – an offering for the locals.
Little Tommy’s is the kind of place you can stroll off the sand for a bite and a beer or grab a pizza to-go and roll out a rug in the park across the road. For those who prefer to sit and savour, there’s a scattering of 45 seats and bar stools, but there are no bookings to speak of. In terms of the menu, Little Tommy’s offers a condensed selection of Tommy’s favourites and best sellers – think mortadella, pistachio and stracciatella pizza, truffle mushroom arancini and the eternally popular lamb ragu pappardelle pasta. When it comes to the drinks, Little Tommy’s delivers a punchy selection of libations, craft beers and lo-fi wines. Six cocktails vie for your attention, but it’s pretty hard to go past The Litle Red (lamington vodka, raspberry prosecco syrup, fresh lemon, egg white). If Tommy’s Italian is the sophisticated older sibling and special-occasion spot, Little Tommy’s is the spirited and unapologetic second child that is just here for the cocktails and a good time.
