Get the first look at La Luna Restaurant – stage one of Marina Mirage’s new floating beach club
The Gennari Group, headed by Gold Coast local Patrik Gennari, is no stranger to creating iconic venues. A stalwart of the hospitality scene for more than 20 years, The Gennari Group is responsible for some of the coast’s most-loved institutions including Glass Dining & Lounge Bar, Koi, The Loose Moose, Roosevelt Lounge and Maggie Choo. Now, the dream team has unveiled the first stage of its most ambitious project to date – it’s called La Luna Beach Club and it’s set to deliver the country’s first floating beach club. Here’s everything we know so far …
La Luna Beach Club will be unlike anything the Gold Coast has ever seen before. The restaurant, which occupies the prized corner site at Marina Mirage (next door to Glass Dining & Lounge Bar), swings open its doors this Thursday January 13 giving us the first taste of what’s to come for La Luna – and boy, are we excited. La Luna Restaurant presents a chic Mediterranean dining experience befitting its superlative location overlooking the Broadwater – the offering is elevated while retaining a sense of fun. Unlike fine dining restaurants of days past, you needn’t communicate in whispers. Instead, La Luna sets the scene for spirited conversations and making meaningful memories over food, wine and perfectly crafted cocktails.
If you’re in the mood for a grazing feast, stick to the mezze section and tear into bread that’s still steamy from the woodfired oven, dip into taramasalata and stracciatella, or pick at the likes of marinated olives, mortadella and Ortiz white anchovies. Oysters – available natural, with a Thai vinaigrette or Kilpatrick – head up the cold bar, joined by options such as sashimi, beef tartare and lobster rolls, however we hear that La Luna’s refined and modern take on the classic prawn cocktail is a must. Traditional tastes are catered to with the entrees and mains, ranging from saganaki drizzled with rainforest honey, Moreton Bay bug rolls, a selection of premium beef cuts and confit duck leg with charred pear puree among the culinary delights. There’s also a scattering of perfectly crisp pizzas to share … or not. Flip the menu and you’re presented with an extensive offering of sips, including upwards of 50 wines, 35 of which are available by the glass. The cocktails feature a succinct selection of elevated classics, including a refined French martini that is guaranteed to tickle the tastebuds.
La Luna’s contemporary fit-out features a dreamy palette of crisp white linen, warm timber and pops of greenery, exuding a sophisticated Santorini-style vibe. A neon-lit sign that reads ‘live by the sun, dance by the moon’ encapsulates La Luna’s playful side, which will extend to the eagerly anticipated beach club. The beach club is currently being constructed off-site and is expected to open in early April 2022. At 840 sqm, the floating beach club will be an engineering marvel and feature a glistening pool surrounded by day beds, private cabanas, a runway, bar and an outdoor restaurant. Watch this space.
