The round-up: sizzle sesh – where to get your Korean BBQ fix on the Gold Coast

If you’re a seasoned Korean BBQ-eater, then you’ll second the notion that it’s a pretty tasty and totally interactive dining experience. For those a little green to it, think tender cuts of marinated meats, which you sizzle at your table on a traditional Korean-style barbecue, alongside plenty of delicious banchan (side dishes). It’s fun, authentic and usually creates a pretty vibrant atmosphere. If you’re keen to experience the goodness, then here are bunch of places to get your Korean BBQ fix on the Gold Coast.

Cook n Beer, Surfers Paradise: This much-loved Surfers Paradise hub is tucked away in the alleyway along Surfers Paradise Boulevard, firing up its individual barbecues with everything from chilli pork ribs to sliced pork belly and marinated beef ribs, alongside plenty of traditional (and hearty) Korean dishes, like hot pot, noodles and pork backbone soup.

GAL.B Korean BBQ, Southport: Expect an array of specialty delights at this cosy venue, such as wagyu specials and alll the best cuts for grilling. With a warm wood-panelled interior and a hefty offering of other bites to accompany your barbecue (if you can fit them in), this is one you don’t want to skip over in your Korean barbecue journey.

Oppane Korean Cuisine, Southport: Garnering rave reviews from dedicated fans, this restaurant also serves up Korean delights such as sweet and spicy fried chicken, hot pot and bibimbap. The Korean eatery delivers on the phrase bang for your buck, slinging an array of meals so large they’re almost unfinishable (challenge accepted) at solid prices.

Korean BBQ Buffet, SouthportPerfect for couples and groups, there’s a reason this (aptly named) Korean barbecue locale is a local fave. Choose your own adventure at this Southport restaurant that keeps it simple with a focus on some of the best barbecue around.

BBQ Village, Southport: Sopo (that’s hip talk for Southport) really turns it up when it comes to Korean barbecue. BBQ Village fires up the charcoal on the daily from its Scarborough Street digs, so you can cook up a storm with delicate meats like boneless wagyu beef ribs, prawns, pork and brisket.

Bulgogi-Ya, Southport: This all-you-can-eat barbecue is kind of like choosing your own adventure. Go for your faves and chuck them all on the grill in front of you, until they’re sizzled to perfection. Delicious.

Yi Dynasty Korean BBQ, Southport: If you’re a local Korean BBQ lover, then we’ll confidently hedge our bets that you’ve been to Yi Dynasty in Southport. The restaurant moved location in 2017 and its loyal army of fans obediently followed. The new location saw Yi Dynasty ditch its charcoal grills for state-of-the-art infrared ones, making for a healthier Korean feast.

Korean Kitchen, Cavill Lane: This Korean barbecue joint is nestled in the centre of Surfers Paradise in Cavill Lane. Each table has its own gas barbecue for sizzling up a storm and a range of other Korean favourites are also on offer, like Korean pancakes, dumplings and bibimbap.

Goha Korean Restaurant, Southport: We weren’t kidding when we said Southport was a hotspot for Korean BBQ. At the family-owned-and-operated Goha Korean Restaurant you can stay true to tradition and cook your own marinated meat at your table (which you can guarantee is super fresh – it’s sourced from the family butcher next door) or get a taste of everything at the nightly BBQ buffet.
