If you’re in need of essentials, perhaps look beyond the giant chains and spend your money with small local businesses at a time when they need it most. The Gold Coast has a large stable of international grocers, delis, Asian supermarkets and fresh-food markets that are open and well stocked so you can duck in and grab what you need to get you through.

Yuen’s, Mermaid Waters: Here you’ll find a wide range of top-quality fresh fruit and vegetables, along with all of your pantry essentials and deli items. From chips and condiments to bread, cheese and milk, Yuen’s is jammed packed with goodness for your pantry and fridge.

The Standard Market Company, Southport: Fresh fruit and vegetables, a butcher and deli – the Ferry Road market has all you need under one roof. Plus, there’s take-home meals like frozen pizza and fresh pasta in the deli, frozen pies and lasagne at the butcher, as well as whole chickens and plenty of condiments for home.

Gold Coast Growers Market, Mermaid Beach: Enjoying prime position along the Gold Coast Highway, this fresh-food market has been a long-standing fixture for locals in Mermaid Beach and beyond. There’s a colourful offering of fresh fruit and vegetables on offer, with stocks replenished across the day. You’ll also find pantry goods, deli items, beverages, snacks and more. The Greener Grocer, Isle of Capri: This neighbourhood grocer is stocked with extensive lines of fresh produce and everyday supermarket items, and aims to support mainly local farmers and producers with a wide range of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and deli items on its shelves. It’s also a juice bar and is known for slinging some of the best acai bowls in town! You can even grab a bunch of flowers to brighten up someone’s day (or yours) while you’re there.

Sunlit Asian Supermarket, Broadbeach: Joining other Sunlit locations across Brisbane, the Pacific Fair iteration is lined with all of your must-have Asian pantry items, from sauces and spices to noodles, snacks, perishables and fresh produce.

Exotic Asian Groceries, Mermaid Beach: For 25 years this long-standing Asian supermarket has been supplying locals with authentic and hard-to-get Asian grocery items, pantry goods and products from its mammoth store along the Gold Coast Highway. Barbosa Fine Food Deli, Robina: Enjoying prime position right in the thick of the action in The Kitchens at Robina Town Centre, Barbosa has become a local hotspot for cheeses, deli meats, fresh bread and hard-to-get international grocery items.
