The Weekend Series: five foods spotted on Instagram that will make you want to lick your screen

Ahh, Instagram – truly the best of times and the blurst of times. Since its inception this humble app has been responsible for inciting some of the most powerful FOMO known to man, especially when it comes to food. You’re no doubt familiar with the scenario of having a cheeky lunchtime scroll and coming across an image of a meal that looks so insanely opulent that you actually kind of start to salivate – no shame, we’ve all been there. This here article is dedicated to that exact feeling you get when you see a food and think, “Get in and around my mouth immediately.” Behold, our pick of the most drool-worthy things we’ve seen kicking around on our newsfeeds lately.

Fondue Burger
Too often weird Franken-foods and hybrid creations leave little to be desired, but we don’t see anything wrong with the merging of burgers and fondue. Clinton Hall in New York City is the proud parent of this amazing concoction, wherein a pretzel bun and burger patty have a hole taken out to resemble a doughnut. Said hole is then filled to the brim with oozy cheese and crispy fries, creating a built-in fondue pot. Hello, I love you.

What-a-Melon Soft Serve
Let’s mention no-brainer in the Instagram food trend world – Dominique Ansel. The dude is pretty much a living example of dessert innovation, constantly pushing the envelope when it comes to the pretty and sweet thangs you see popping up on the internet. One of his latest creations is the adorable What-a-Melon Soft Serve, available at his Japan dessert bakery – the very photogenic food is made by filling a slice of juicy watermelon with a homemade watermelon soft serve, then studded with chocolate ‘seeds’ and served with a little container of sea salt to sprinkle on top.

Fairy Floss Ice-Cream Burrito
If you don’t have at least a bit of a sweet tooth, this item will not appeal to you. Coming out of the aptly titled Sugar Sugar in Ontario, these fairy floss ice-cream burritos are a pretty serious treat. Think about a giant ball of fairy floss flattened out to look like a pastel tortilla, then a few scoops of the ice-cream of your choice plonked in the middle and rolled up into a neat little package – voila! The result is a visual and textural delight that is probably best shared with a mate if you don’t want to see through time due to a sugar overdose.

The Loop Churros
If you cover it in glitter and/or sprinkles, the internet will love it – that’s pretty much a fact. The Loop Churros in California figured this out pretty quickly and knocked the formula out of the park with its Mermaid Chilled Loop Churro. The very ‘gram-worthy concoction is made with a looped churro covered in blueberry glaze and shimmering sparkle sugar, which is then nestled in soft-serve covered with chocolate pearls and a house-made chocolate mermaid tail. We really do wish we could be part of that world.

Blessed beyond measure. 😇
