From traditional sweet-and-savoury spreads to boundary-pushing towers of culinary magic, we’ve found the best spots for high tea on the Gold Coast.

Palazzo Versace, Main Beach: For a truly sophisticated outing, Palazzo Versace’s series of high tea experiences will have you covered. Head straight to the top tier with the Royal Couture High Tea, which is served progressively alongside Ruinart champagne. Relax and graze on savouries like roast beef and celeriac remoulade finger sandwiches and sweets like elderflower cheesecake and pumpkin-spiced latte panna cotta, before indulging in the Ars Italica Oscietra caviar, served with blinis and condiments. You’ll even go home with your own handcrafted chocolate … which, let’s be honest, probably won’t make it home.

Teavine House, Tallebudgera: This enchanted venue is nestled in the leafy Tallebudgera Valley, offering a unique European-inspired traditional high tea. Served with a worldly collection of fine china, the glorious Teavine House high teas feature an elegant menu of petite savouries, sweet delights, dainty sandwiches and signature mini scones with house-made strawberry preserve and fresh cream. What a dream.

Tea & Niceties, Mount Tamborine: Kissed with natural light and surrounded by lush greenery, Tea & Niceties is the ideal spot for high tea away from the hustle and bustle. Perched atop Mount Tamborine, the venue features a vintage-inspired tea room amid enchanting gardens. Sit back and soak up the charm of yesteryear with an elegant high tea menu with everything from scones with lemon curd to sandwiches, tartlets, macarons, savouries and more. There’s also a gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan Wellbeing High Tea, which you can enjoy with a glass of vegan sparkling wine.

QT Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise: QT is known for putting an eclectic and quirky spin on just about everything it does, and its high tea experiences are no different. There’s QT High Tea at Fixx Cafe, which offers a fun, nostalgic and totally delicious spin on traditional high tea with everything from house-made quiches to chocolate popsicle sticks, served alongside tea, espresso or champagne. There’s even a dedicated gents experience at Stingray Lounge called Man Tea, where the fellas can snack on bug rolls and chocolate-filled cigars while sipping whisky by the nip.

Videre at RACV Royal Pines Resort, Benowa: Fine-dining space Videre hosts high tea sittings every Saturday and Sunday. The indulgent offering features traditional delights like freshly baked scones, macarons, house-made pastries and gourmet sandwiches alongside espresso coffee and loose-leaf tea. The incredible skyline views take the experience to a new level.

Chapter & Verse at Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort, Surfers Paradise: Here you’ll find a modern twist on classic high tea. The breezy lounge bar serves an tiered arrangement of bites like smoked-salmon bagels and Mount Tamborine goats cheese-filled cones with pistachio, as well as sweet morsels like apricot-chocolate terrine and freshly baked scones.

Paradox Coffee Roasters, Surfers Paradise: Don’t do tea? High coffee it is! The caffeine connoisseurs at Paradox Coffee Roasters put on a delicious gourmet high-tea spread accompanied by its stellar house-roasted blends – you can even lash out and upgrade to an espresso martini. Think fluffy buttermilk scones, sourdough sandwiches, arancini balls and chia-mango puddings.

Watermark Hotel & Spa, Surfers Paradise: Handmade French macarons, petite fours, ribbon sandwiches, fresh scones, Veuve Clicquot and peppermint and Kahlua affogatos – yes, the Watermark’s high tea tastes as decadent as it sounds. Green Days, Bundall: This hidden pavilion has a lush garden setting creating a tranquil atmosphere for a relaxed high tea with friends. You’ll be delighted with a menu of gourmet savouries and sweets like wagyu and thyme sausage rolls, goat’s curd tartlets, dark-chocolate and beetroot brownies, mini eclairs and more. You can even request the private library upon booking for a more exclusive affair.
