Discover Tugun’s secret bar HIDDEN
Hidden behind an inconspicuous doorway beside Groove Cafe, Tugun’s new aptly named hole-in-the-wall bar, HIDDEN, transports you back in time to the roaring twenties.
Follow the sound of spirited merriment and the hum of live music down the corridor lined with fire engine red post boxes and you’ll soon stumble upon HIDDEN bar. The new Prohibition-style speak easy is the handiwork of James Park, the famous singing barista from the cafe next door, and offers top shelf tipple and tapas for your evening’s enjoyment. Sip on a martini of Hendrix gin and vermouth as you pick at a charcuterie board of miscellaneous meats and picked vegetables under the watchful gaze of a Banksy-style mural they affectionately refer to as Rubi. If you feel so inclined, share a plate or two of the chevre balls; crumbed, deep-fried goat’s cheese finished with a deliciously sweet honey glaze, salt and pepper squid or Angus beef tagliata with chermoula.
With capacity topping out at around 50, the quaint venue is furnished with repurposed church doors as tables and adorned with antique mirrors while fringed lampshades straight out of yesteryear provide moody atmospheric lighting. A striking His Master’s Voice gramophone takes pride of place at the end of the bar. Vying for the title of the area’s worst kept secret, locals have been quick to embrace HIDDEN as their preferred weekend watering hole. See our Stumble Guide for opening times.
