Lick all-natural gelato at the Gold Coast’s newest (and coolest) gelateria, Heven-yah

There’s a new gelateria Gold Coast that you need to get yourself acquainted with. Before we introduce you to Heven-yah, we should let you know that this is most certainly not your average gelato joint. How so? Well, for one they do flavours like Prosecco and pear. That’s right, there is such a thing as boozy gelato with all-natural ingredients. Now, before you grab your keys, jump in the car and race down there for a lick – let us fill you in a bit more about this sweet little beachside space.

Sisters Holly and Amy Prosser recently opened the doors to Heven-yah in Mermaid Beach, after transforming a vacant shop just next door to Alfred’s Apartment into a bright and sleek industrial-style gelateria. After running Heven-yah (a play on the Welsh word for ice-cream) as a gelato cart across various markets and events around 18 months, the sisters decided that they had tested the waters for long enough, and it was time for a standalone shopfront.  Now, the duo are churning out some serious gelato magic from their small but vibrant new space, which is complete with an exposed timber roof, white walls and rustic red brick.

The sisters’ collective passion for food and local produce shines throughout the rotating menu, resulting in flavours like grapefruit and Campari, French tarragon with raspberry and meringue, chilli chocolate, nectarine, Milo and almond milk chocolate. Each week, they hit the Murwillumbah markets to gather the best quality local and pesticide-free ingredients. So, whatever produce is in season and at its best, is what you’ll find in the Heven-yah gelato line-up. The flavours are truly unique and put a gourmet spin on the traditional art of gelato making, which means you’ll need to make regular visits to try them all (hurrah!). Holly and Amy also have their own bee hive and harvest their own honey, which they use in certain gelato flavours as a substitute for sugar. It’s refreshing to know that there is genuine passion, a true understanding of flavours and a respect for ingredients going into each and every delicious scoop. It really does taste like heaven, yah?
