Helena’s Espresso brings honest food and a homestyle vibe to the northern end

As lovers of food, some of our greatest memories involve sitting around the dining table for hours eating with family and friends. Generally, it can be pretty hard to replicate that homestyle vibe when you’re out for breakfast or lunch, so it’s easy to want to just smash through your avo on toast, throw down your latte and make tracks. If you’re looking for a place where you can slow down a little and feel right at home, then you’ll want to familiarise yourself with Helena’s Espresso, the northern end’s newest daytime hang.

If the name is ringing a bell for you, then you’re right – Helena’s Espresso was formerly located at Royal Pines overlooking the marina. When the doors to Helena’s closed last April to make way for a waterfront residential development, many of us were left with a cake-shaped whole in our hearts. Itching to get back into the game, owner Helena Jaffar started working on her latest project in a brand-new commercial precinct on New Street in Nerang, creating a sophisticated industrial-style space to reignite the Helena’s Espresso flame. For the uninitiated, you can expect honest food, a genuine homestyle vibe and some of the most delicious homemade cakes in town

Helena’s has Toby’s Estate coffee back on board, so you’ll find brews pumping out from 7:00 am from Monday through to Friday. It’s located right next to the M1, so if you’re looking for a decent coffee stop on your morning commute that’s not off the beaten track, then you’re in luck. Alongside the coffee, you’ll find Helena’s renowned housemade cakes, muffins and slices, which are baked daily. Be warned though, with delicious things like a zucchini and lemon loaf and a gooey Belgian brownie, you probably won’t be able to leave with just a coffee in hand. If you’re looking to sit and chill, then kick back and munch on simple eats like Helena’s Benny, smashed avo, bacon and egg rolls and toasted croissants. Can’t decide? Then get the towering breakfast board with sourdough toast and sides of avocado, ham, tomatoes, pesto and poached eggs. You’ll find the cabinet brimming each day with rotating toasted sandwich combinations like chorizo, cheese and onion (drool), plus colourful salads, protein balls and all of the cake. Oh, and don’t be afraid to sit and stay a while – Helena wants you to feel right at home.
