Explore your culinary curiosity at Hazelwood Estate’s immersive Cape Mentelle Long Lunch

In its most elementary form, food is a basic necessity that provides vital nourishment. If, however, you believe that food is much, much more than just a means for survival, and possess an insatiable sense of culinary curiosity – go ahead and get excited for Cape Mentelle’s Long Lunch on Saturday April 9. Bringing together the refined wines of Margaret River’s Cape Mentelle, paired with abundant hyper-local produce from the Scenic Rim, this incredible immersive foodie experience is here to spark joy in the best (and most delicious) way possible.

Set amongst the pristine surrounds and rolling hills of Hazelwood Estate in the Gold Coast hinterland, this extraordinary event invites diners to embark on a magical six-course culinary journey curated by The Paddock restaurant’s executive chef Simon Furley and Pip Sumbak of Pip’s Plate. Each dish has been carefully crafted to take guests’ tastebuds on a sensory journey from coast to coast, evoking the sights, smells and tastes unique to each landscape. The immersive event will celebrate cooking over fire and shine a spotlight on the region’s rich bounty of exceptional producers, both of which have become synonymous with Simon and Pip’s signature cooking styles.

The long lunch will showcase hyper-local and sustainable produce alongside The Paddock Restaurant’s root-to-stem and nose-to-tail ethos. To whet your appetite, the main course, for example, will feature dairy cow beef from Tommerup’s Dairy Farm with crème fraiche (also from Tommerup’s) whipped with smoked beef fat and papalo. The beef is free-range, organic and demonstrates deep-seated respect to the land and farmer by utilising a by-product of the dairy industry and an overlooked local product. The whole animal will be utilised across a range of different dishes and iterations, so there is virtually no wastage. The best part? In addition to discovering flavours unique to the Scenic Rim, a portion of ticket sales and all proceeds of raffle tickets sold on the day will be donated to Scenic Rim Farm Box for flood-relief efforts. If you’re really keen to make the most of the experience (and by that we mean enjoy the paired Cape Mentelle wines), there are a handful of accommodation packages available at the magnificent Hazelwood Estate that include tickets to the lunchtime event. The two-night Cape Mentelle Weekender Package will see you rest your head in a luxurious King Farm Cabin and enjoy delights including a bottle of Cape Mentelle on arrival, breakfast at The Paddock each day, a charcuterie and cheese platter for two and a pair of Cape Mentelle Turkish towels. For a truly unforgettable experience, the two-night Exploration Package will take your lunch to new heights – literally– with return helicopter transfers, cocktails on arrival, a wine and cheese tasting, breakfast and dinner at The Paddock each day, massage treatments and plenty of Cape Mentelle wine to enjoy across the weekend (and take home with you!). To book, head to the Hazelwood Estate website.
