New Chinese eating house Grand Dynasty brings authentic bites and yum cha delights to Broadbeach

Gone are the days of Chinese restaurants piling your plate high with sticky honey chicken and fried rice straight from the bain-marie. Don’t get us wrong, everybody loves a cheeky takeaway now and then, but if you’re looking for new ways to satisfy your cravings for delicious and authentic Chinese cuisine, then back that belt off a few notches and make a beeline for new Broadbeach eating house Grand Dynasty.

The new Chinese hotspot is the latest addition to The Oasis dining precinct – it has taken the space formerly occupied by Asian street-food eatery Junk, and neighbours the likes of Main Street Burger Bar, Harajuku Gyoza, Beachside Pavilion, Mario’s Italian and Elk Espresso. Utilising fresh produce, live seafood and traditional Hong Kong-style recipes, Grand Dynasty’s owner, chef Ken Zang, is all about delivering on authenticity and finesse across the extensive menu – the bustling vibe and convivial atmosphere is an added bonus.

Yum cha is served here daily, with a delicious and widespread offering ranging from steamed (and hand-made) dumplings and dim sims to barbecue steamed buns, fried delights like wontons and taro dumplings, as well as barbecued duck, pork congee and sweet finishers like mango pancakes. The extensive main menu is dotted with authentic eats – think hot and sour soup to start, before upping the ante with share plates like Peking duck, traditional Chinese hot pot, and piping-hot noodle combinations. Seafood (and more specifically, crustacean) lovers are in the right place – there’s everything from Hong Kong-style hot and spicy whole lobster to giant king crabs served swimming in a range of sauces, Singapore chilli mud crabs and fresh daily fish. If you don’t like making decisions (it’s tough) just opt for the banquet – and let the deep-fried ice-cream at the end effortlessly tip you into a self-induced food coma.
