The round-up: where to find the cheesiest dishes

We’re just to come out and say it – we’re a cheesy bunch here at The Weekend Edition. We love all of the cheeses, and this video right here … well this is what dreams are made of. Whether you eat slices straight off the block, enjoy it as a bubbling toastie, on a cheeseburger, a four-cheese pizza, if you just melt it on everything you eat (no judgment here) or prefer the fancy varieties – we share your cheesy vibes. If you’ve got a hankering for the good stuff then look no further – we’ve round-up the cheesiest dishes we could find.

Salt Meats Cheese: Ok, so the name says it all. This renowned food emporium in Surfers Paradise all your go-to for all things cheesy (and salty and meaty, too). Whilst you can well and truly take a slab of truffle pecorino to go, you should sit and stay a while to soak up the cheesiness – you’ll find a pretty stellar four-cheese pizza bianche (fancy talk for a cheesy white base) with fior di latte, mushroom, goats cheese, fontina and truffle oil. There is also a temperature-controlled cheese and meat room that features 150 of the finest imported and local artisan cheeses. Yes, we know what you’re thinking … take a deep breath.

Ze Pickle: Ok, so there’s lots of cheesy goodness on the famous Ze Pickle burger line-up, but have you tried the Triple Loco burger? Let us introduce you – three hand pressed wagyu beef patties, three slice of Jack cheese, triple maple-smoked bacon, pecan wood-smoked brisket, iceberg, tomato, ‘zp’ sauce, smoked jalapeños & mum’s slaw … here’s the extra cheesy hook – it’s all served between two grilled cheese sandwiches. Yes, this burger exists, and yes you should totally attempt it (on an empty stomach). Do it.

Witches Chase: Take a drive a little bit above sea level to Mount Tamborine and you’ll be in absolute cheese heaven. If you’re a local and haven’t been to this cheese factory, then do yourself and your stomach a favour and get up there. They produce small batches of quality cheese using fresh local cow and goats milk, and you can watch them through the glass as they create the magic. There is every type of cheese imaginable. Witches Chase shares its location with Fortitude Brewing, so grab a beer tasting paddle to enjoy with your round of fresh, creamy brie.

Gemelli Italian: We love cheese – but anything with the words ‘four-cheese’ well and truly completes us. This popular Broadbeach Italian gem serves up all of Nonna’s favourites, including the gnocchi della casa quattro formaggi – aka four cheese gnocchi – with soft pillows of gnocchi swirled with gorgonzola, fontina, asiago and reggiano cheeses. So much soft, cheesy goodness … excuse us, we need a moment.

House of Brews: There’s just something about cheese and potato, isn’t there? It’s such a delightful combination of carbs and dairy. House of Brews do the whole cheesy fries thing really well – they load fries or wedges with melted cheese, dripping cheese sauce, bacon bits and sour cream. Keep reading. You’ll also find the Tijuana Street Fries with pulled beef, decadent cheese sauce plus melted cheese, tomato salsa and fresh guac. Worth every single cheesy mouthful.

Hellenika: Grilled saganaki is a simple dish, but man it’s tasty. Hellenika uses the kefalograviera variety and serves it grilled with a wedge of lemon. Pair that with a glass of Greek rosé or a Mythos beer – there is actually nothing better.

Brooklyn Depot: There’s no shortage of American food on the Gold Coast, and Brookyln Depot know how to mac it up with its macaroni and three-cheese (contain yourselves) with gruyere, mozzarella and parmesan baked in béchamel sauce. Oh, and its topped with bacon bits. You can add some truffle flavour for an extra few acorns – treat ‘yo self.

Justin Lane: You simply can’t go past Justin’s cheese pizza. Sit on the rooftop and enjoy the four-cheese variety of provolone, gorgonzola, fior di latte, buffalo mozzarella, a little extra mozzarella (this one is chee-zee) plus a handful of rocket to keep things fresh. Perhaps an Aperol spritz in the sunshine too – just sayin’.

All-Time Coffee Co: Sometimes, you just can’t go past an uncomplicated cheese toastie, and the team at All-Time Coffee know exactly where it’s at. We don’t want to discriminate against our dairy-intolerant or vegan friends with all this cheese talk – so for those in that category, you’ll be glad to know that All-Time offers vegan cheese in all of its toasties – cool huh? They taste pretty damn good too. So do the vegan doughnuts with vegan ‘notella’. Cheese and doughnuts – now that’s our kind of combo.

Lester & Earl: So much cheese on one menu. The Smack n Cheese is just as addictive as it sounds – a smoked triple cheese macaroni, which you can share with friends or smack it up and order for a main. You’ll also find cheesy fries and cheesy ‘shrooms drowned in Lester & Earl’s famous tripe cheese sauce.
