George Calombaris is coming back to the Gold Coast and he’s bringing baklava choc tops!
This is not a drill – baklava ‘choc tops’ are coming to the Gold Coast. George Calombaris, renowned chef, restaurateur and MasterChef judge, will be at The Kitchens next weekend to launch his newest creation, which is one of a number of tasty new additions to the menu at popular Greek eatery, Jimmy Grants. Robina’s foodie playground will come alive next weekend – not only is George dropping new dishes, he’ll be throwing a party, staging a live cooking demo and having breakfast with (lucky) locals.
Okay, friends – take a breath. That’s a lot to take in. Here’s what you need to know. George Calombaris will be hanging out at The Kitchens next Friday March 17 and Saturday March 18. By now, you would have experienced the Greek deliciousness of Jimmy Grants. If you haven’t, then take a long, hard look at yourself … then put Jimmy high on your list of edible priorities. When we had a chat to George last year, he dropped the hint that he was working on something that would resemble the old-school ‘choc top’ from the cinemas. He sure came through with the goods. Along with the baklava ice-cream choc tops, we’re also getting another gift from the Greek gods – the Americano souva featuring succulent beef short rib, barbecue sauce and pickles, plus the option to order any souva in the new Almighty super-size.
To celebrate the deliciousness, George will be throwing a F.O.G (Friends of George) Party at Jimmy Grants on Friday night, and you’re invited. It all kicks off from 5:30 pm, complete with a DJ, cocktails and souvas straight off the spit. On Saturday, George will be doing a fresh-food shop around The Kitchens to prep for his live cooking demonstration, which will see the cooking stage fire up at 11:00 am – he’ll be sharing his secrets and tips so you can recreate the Greek-style spread at home (or you can just order takeaway from Jimmy Grants and tell your friends you made it … just saying). The Kitchens is also giving three lucky locals the chance to dine side-by-side for breakfast with the celebrity chef on Saturday March 18, with a tasty spread from The Kitchens’ tenants Mr Pigs Bakehouse, Naked Treaties, Earth Markets, NYC Bagel Deli and Mark Daniels’ Patisserie.
