Time-honoured tradition on the menu at Gemelli Italian

While not all of us were lucky enough to grow up immersed in Italian culture and gifted with expert culinary skills and secret family sauce recipes, you can enjoy the fruits of such traditions at Gemelli Italian in Broabeach.

Translated to mean ‘twin’ in Italian, Gemelli Italian is the passion of twins, James and Alec, and their brother Paul Carney. While other little boys spent time getting into mischief and playing in mud, the trio of Italian descent spent time in their Nonna’s kitchen learning the art of authenticity, the skill of simplicity and the finesse of flavour that are hallmarks of true Italian cooking. The Carney brothers have brought some of these time-honoured traditions to the hearty new winter menu at Gemelli Italian for your eating pleasure.

Start your culinary celebration with the new Sicilian-inspired arancini stuffed with saffron rice, pea, oxtail ragu and asiago cheese or the new buffalo mozzarella, hot salami and radicchio pizza. The fettucine con funghi e salsicce (fennel, mixed mushrooms, thyme and truffle oil topped with crushed walnuts) is inspired by the region of Piedmont in the north west of Italy that is best known for its beautiful wine, truffles and porcini mushrooms. Pair this with a bottle of 2011 Prunotto Occhetti Nebbiolo and you’re set for a true Piedmontese evening. Every morsel that finds its way onto Gemelli Italian’s menu, including the pillowy pasta, is made fresh, onsite using cherished family recipes with a slight modern twist. While you may not have grown up surrounded by an Italian family, you can partake in the tradition of sharing some beautifully simple, authentic Italian food and glass of vino at Gemelli Italian, and that’s kind of the same thing.
