Tastes like Christmas – Four Pillars’ famed pudding gin is back
Into gin? Love yourself some Christmas pud? Then set your alarms for Saturday October 31 – that’s when Four Pillars’ annual limited-edition Australian Christmas Gin will be up for grabs. Sip it neat, make a cocktail or pour it over your pudding – however you take it, just make sure you don’t miss out on securing your 2020 bottle.
The exclusive Four Pillars pudding-infused gin is famously dropped on Derby Day. This year will be the Aussie distillery’s fifth release – and over that time, it has evolved into quite the hot commodity with sippers and bars across the country scrambling to get this annual batch of gin in their hot little hands.
There’s also a feel-good story behind it, which makes this gin even more delicious (if that’s even possible). For Four Pillars’ distiller Cameron Mackenzie, Victoria Derby Day holds a special place in his heart – it was the day his beloved late mum Wilma would bust out the 1968 Australian Women’s Weekly and whip up a batch of her famous Christmas pudding and fill the house with the undeniable smell of Christmas. A couple of years ago, on Derby Day of course, Cam had the bright idea to drop some puds (made to the exact same recipe) in the botanical basket of the Four Pillars still (also lovingly referred to as Wilma) and created the label’s first signature holiday gin, which has become a tradition in its own right.
When you sip, you’ll get a hit of classic juniper and cinnamon, which is underscored by the richness of the extended barrel ageing and the sweetness from the muscat. To put it simply – it tastes like Christmas. This year, Four Pillars collaborated with Melbourne-born Berlin-based artist Lucy Dyson to create the bottle’s artwork, which celebrates the Australian landscape – not only will you enjoy sipping, it’ll make an aesthetically pleasing addition to your bar cart.
The Four Pillars 2020 Christmas Gin goes on sale on Saturday October 31 and will set you back $100. Head to the Four Pillars website to purchase and suss your local stockists.
