Sashimi bowls and sake sips – Byron Bay’s Finn Poké lands in Burleigh Heads

Okay, it’s safe to say that poke bowls are well and truly here to stay. Much like the rise of sushi back in the day, these Hawaiian-inspired bowls of goodness are becoming a regular staple for local foodies looking for a healthy and fresh option to sink their teeth into. Last week, the Gold Coast got a new poke-bowl injection with Byron Bay-born Finn Poké opening its doors on Burleigh’s James Street.

This is certainly not Finn Poké’s first rodeo here on the Gold Coast. Just last month we welcomed the city’s first Finn Poké store at Pacific Fair, which opened almost a year to the day after its flagship venue wowed the crowds in Byron Bay. Burleigh was the next logical step for Finn’s owners – brother-and-sister duo Jem and Joelle Jacinto – who have created a bright and breezy new addition to the bustling James Street precinct, which accommodates both sake-sipping sit-down diners and those after an on-the-go bowl to devour by the beach.

For those yet to acquaint themselves with the Finn Poké deliciousness, it’s known for its truly authentic take on traditional Hawaiian poke bowls and prides itself on using certified sustainable seafood, local produce and environmentally friendly packaging. The signature bowls are loaded with the likes of trawler-fresh tuna, salmon and swordfish on a base of either rice, a cucumber and buckwheat noodle salad or a citrus kale salad. The non-fishy folk can opt for proteins like sous vide chicken, organic tofu or roasted beetroot, while you can jazz up your bowl with everything from pickled shiitake mushrooms to watermelon radish and fresh pineapple. Hot tip – add a cup of hot miso on the side then sweeten the deal with a traditional Hawaiian coconut haupia pudding. Do it.
