Feed the Earthlings brings plant-based burgs to the burbs

We’ve come a long way, Gold Coast. From the days when eateries included the token few meat-free dishes to having restaurants (and pretty soon even entire market places) dedicated exclusively to animal-free plant-based eats. The latest addition to the vegan foodie scene is Feed the Earthlings, which has just opened its second venue in Burleigh Waters.

From humble beginnings, Feed the Earthlings has also come a long way from the days when it used to operate from a factory at Ashmore. They had no tables, no chairs, no signage and no lights. People would use the torches on their phones to find the place, roll out a picnic blanket and play UNO while they wait, sometimes up to an hour for food. Fast-forward to now and owners Teaki Page and Phil Hancock have just opened their second Gold Coast restaurant, which is (thankfully) complete with tables, chairs, lights and minimal wait times.

If you’re already familiar with Feed the Earthlings’ Broadbeach venue, then you already know the gist. For those that aren’t, well, allow us. Whilst vegan food can often conjure images of leafy salads and other such health-related niceties, Feed the Earthlings is here to satisfy those ‘sometimes’ cravings for pizza, hotdogs and big, beautiful burgers. The ‘meat’ patties are made in-house and are designed to taste just like the real deal only without any animal-related guilt. In fact, Feed the Earthlings’ faux meat is so good, it’s been known to fool even the most staunch carnivores. First time? Wrap your hands around the venue’s signature cheeseburger loaded with a juicy patty topped with an oozy, cheesy melt and smothered in sauce or tuck into the No-meatlovers pizza, which is chock-a-block with house-made pepperoni, shredded ham, bacon and sausage on a smoky barbecue base. There are plans to rejig the menu to include the special pulled pork burger on a permanent basis alongside at least three different pasta dishes so keep an eye out in coming weeks. Whether you’re completely animal-free, striving to eat less meat or just enjoy a damn tasty burger, Feed the Earthlings is definitely one new opening to be excited about.
