Hi hungry, I’m Dad – where to celebrate Father’s Day on the Gold Coast

What do dads want? It’s a mystery we’ve been unable to crack no matter how many ties, novelty mugs, and variations on wood, whiskey and well-aged leather we’ve flung their way. If you’re puzzled about how to best pamper your papa this Father’s Day (September 1, by the way) why not give the gift of a shared experience? Some quality time together and a smorgasbord of delicious food and drinks are sure to have your father feeling the warm and fuzzies. To help you out we’ve put together a round-up of some special Father’s Day events happening on the Gold Coast.

Take part in a masa and mezcal masterclass at Clay Cantina: If you are looking for something a bit different this year, treat your foodie dad to a masterclass at Clay Cantina in Coolangatta. Kristal Smith will be joined by the legendary Gerardo Lopez of La Tortilleria in Melbourne to delve into the world of masa and mezcal. Participants can sip on delicious mezcal cocktails before rolling up your sleeves and making some magic. On the menu will be barramundi ceviche, bean gorditas, tacos al pastor and molcajete black salsa. There are two classes, 10:30 am and 2:30 pm. Nab your tickets here.

Tackle the tomahawk steak special at The Broadbeach: This one for the carnivorous dads out there – due to popular demand, the 1-kg tomahawk steak with sides for $99 is available again at The Broadbeach this Father’s Day. Perfect for two to share or one to conquer!

Surf it and turf it at Southport Sharks: If there’s one common interest we’re comfortable assigning to all dads it’s barbecue. Bring your daddy to the grand-daddy of all barbeque buffets at Southport Sharks’ Surf & Turf Barbecue Buffet Lunch. They’re throwing it all on the rack from seafood, sausages, chops, rissoles, pork ribs, chicken skewers and so much more. Plus all fathers sitting down to lunch can enjoy a free schooner of house beer, along with the chance to win one of three special Father’s Day hampers. Any tykes on site can enjoy refillable soft drinks and access to the Wobbygongs Kids Fun Zone to keep them occupied while dad takes a well-deserved rest. Reserve your spot at the table here

Indulge in bottomless brunch at The Island Gold Coast: The Island Gold Coast has done the hard work for you and lined up a cracking spread of Father’s Day delights that will have dad sitting back with his belt-buckle back a notch, beer in hand and grin on his face. For the traditional kinda dad, there’s breakfast, lunch and dinner at Goldie’s. Here, Dad will feel right at home feasting on smoked wings, succulent steaks, bad-ass burgers, ribs and schnitzels with all the trimmings. For the dad who’s down with the kids and loves to lie in, there’s Island Rooftop Bottomless Brunch.
