Meet E.L.E – Burleigh’s LGBTIQA+ friendly sip spot Everybody Love Everybody
If you ask us, there’s been a pretty noticeable lack of LGBTIQA+ focused venues on the Gold Coast. Stephen Thompson (owner of famed Burleigh institution Oi Izakaya) and Giulia Rodrigues have sought to change that with Everybody Love Everybody, or E.L.E for short. As its name suggests, the brand-new bar is envisioned as a safe space for everybody in the community to enjoy a drink and a bite without judgement. Take a peek inside …
If you find yourself edging closer to the weekend with a hankering for a fabulously fun time, fire up the group chat and follow the sound of bangin’ beats to Everybody Love Everybody. The new watering hole has completely transformed the former crystal shop on the corner of Big B Arcade into an inclusive safe haven for everyone in the community as well as ‘anyone else that feels like an outsider’, the bar’s mission statement reads. The striking venue has been designed by OJ Thompson and has completely opened up the side wall, filling the corridor with tunes and pops of neon lights. A mix of booth and long-table seating extends out to an alfresco area, which provides the perfect perch for a spot of day drinking. Inside, a shiny disco ball suspended from the concrete ceiling creates an unmistakable party vibe, while around the outside are striking shots by Troy Freyee and printed by We Sell Prints. All up, E.L.E has capacity for 65-70 revellers.
The drinks list is punchy, sophisticated and fun, with a clutch of signature cocktails including the aptly named Love You, which contains Geraldton Waxflower vodka, Domaine de Canton, ginger syrup and coconut water. For those who like to nibble while they sip, you can order a selection of snacks from Oi Izakaya next door. In a mission statement, E.L.E acknowledges that ‘calling ourselves a ‘gay bar’ doesn’t make us a gay bar – the community will decide. To further break the mould, our goal first and foremost is to be a really cool bar that anyone would love to be in … So to the mould breakers, outsiders and weirdos – make this your space. To the community at large who want a space to just be yourself – make this your home. To the LGBTIQA+ community especially – thank you for inspiring us to create the venue, and we hope you can find a home here too.’ E.L.E will host regular djs on the decks as well as plenty of special guests.
